  1. John Boy, What we have now is about as simple as it is gonna get. Why complicate it? Try racking the slide on a M12 that the trigger hasn't been pulled on. Mine won't open unless I pull the trigger or hit the slide release button. There is no deficiency in the current protocol. BTW we have a safety on our 1911 we don't use either. JFN
  2. It makes no difference in cycling my M12 whether I hold the trigger down while cycling the action or if I close the action and pull the trigger. I prefer to close the action and then pull the trigger hearing the hammer drop. Otherwise I do the OCD thing of repeatedly checking the trigger while standing at the load table to make sure it is really down. JFN
  3. That is why I use a big red flag, cuz I forget. Another thing I have stopped doing is pulling the trigger as I close the action. There is no benefit, the hammer falls normally. I now close the action and then pull the trigger. That way I hear the hammer fall and I know it is down. JFN
  4. See what happens when you fondle! JFN
  5. Keep a file handy! Knock the sharp off the edge and keep shooting. JFN
  6. I don't know who ordered the top 10 awards for WR but the buckles were top shelf; something I would actually wear. (To say the ones give out at EOT were disappointing would be an understatement.) I hope that WR keeps up their high standards. JFN
  7. Another question, after the match is over and scores printed, is there anyway to delete that match? JFN
  8. Branchwater Jack, You are taking the long view on this. I have a MacIntosh Classic which is about 25 years old. Still runs great and runs all the software made for it. Don't worry about what might work in the future. Get some iPads or iPhones, download the free program and use it. If they are cared for and lightly used I'll bet they will last for many years. JFN
  9. just got an iPhone 6, works great on it.
  10. Alright, figured it out. It is easy after you get beyond the learning curve. My printer is wifi enabled and will print the scores directly from my phone. What a great program! JFN
  11. I Just downloaded the ACES Scoring program. I thought you could do the WBAS stage point scoring on it. All I see it the stage point scoring. Anybody doing the stage point scoring with it? JFN
  12. Spend a few extra $ and get a good trigger job. JFN
  13. MS & BJ, There is little point in debating this. That is what the rule says and that was how I was told to score it at a match this summer. We will have to wait until Happy Jack gives the definitive word. I could have it all wrong, I know I have been wrong at least once today and maybe twice! JFN
  14. But then maybe Capt. Baylor is steampunk . . . . .
  15. Agreed, we don't need any more categories. But be careful about the goggles, they were actually part of the military dress for the punitive expedition. Funny though everyone wears them on their hat. So when you see Capt. Baylor with his goggles he is probably not going steam punk. JFN
  16. GJ, They still get a 10 second procedural and the added time, not much of a loophole. JFN
  17. Everything is answered here in this quote from page 25 of the WBAS Shooters Handbook 15.The penalty for using “illegally acquired” ammunition (i.e., NOT carried to the line/staged by the shooter in an approved manner) or overloaded rounds that are fired will be a PROCEDURAL. Any targets hit using that ammo will be scored as MISSES. NO adjustments will be made to the stage raw time. A Procedural (10 seconds) for firing the ammo, 5 seconds for each target hit and time is from the last round fired. JFN
  18. danawr, Going through the class again and reading the rule book is necessary. Still, I learn more from the discussions like this and from the bad calls I have made as TO. My mistakes really seem to make a rule clear. Even this discussion reminded me of a call I made as TO in a monthly match last spring. Shooter overloaded his rifle and had a live round on the carrier when he arrived at the unload table. I assessed him a MSV and the counters and posse rose up in revolt telling me the rifle was the last gun fired. I argued he had set the rifle down to clear his pistol but was overruled. But what does HJ's note in his first post say? "Note, IF it is the last gun used and you can figure out how to keep it in your hand with the action open or closed on a fired round with the muzzle safely downrange while clearing your 1911 and can make it to the ULT safely and clear it before it leaves your hand it would be a NO CALL. Once it leaves your hand it is a MSV if not empty of live ammunition." I won't give in next time. So keep on asking rule questions. It helps us all. JFN
  19. I think the rule you are struggling with was intended for splitting a string in a long gun. Split strings are highly discouraged and although the rule you quoted seems to allow it, I have never seen a stage that called for it. Splitting the rifle or the shotgun is a safety trap. It would be difficult for shooters to stage a long gun with the action closed on an empty since we work so hard making sure the action is open when the long gun leaves our hands. So ignore that rule completely ["Hammer fully down on an empty chamber or expended round, action closed (restaged for further use)"]. Just make sure when a long gun leaves your hands it is open and empty of live rounds. JFN
  20. The folks in Texas to date have required lead bullets. For the side match at EOT this year Evil Roy brought some targets (Evil Roy of course) that were made of AR500 steel and have a head angle of 45 degrees. So they allowed jacketed bullets because the targets would not be harmed. For OT we have the AR500 targets but they have to be modified to a 45 degree angle. To answer your question, it depends on the steel being shot. You could shoot paper but there there is no target feed back. So it depends on the range hosting the side match. Get some lead bullets! JFN Got finished typing all that and found the BAMM rules Goatneck posted on the top of this forum.
  21. Thanks Goatneck, Hipshot will try to change the angle on some targets for the BAMM. There is no guarantee he will be successful. So Yes, if you can, bring lead. I too will have my Krag and lead 30-40 lead rounds available for anyone to use. With your rifles and others everyone who wants to shoot will be able to do so. JFN
  22. Blackey, There is probably no difference. The rules committee has listed the external modifications that are common to the three guns we shoot. They have excluded all other external modifications because they don't have the time to give a yay or nay on every modification that creative minds can come up with. Believe me, it would be a deluge. If you must make the modification, recognize that you have illegal equipment and you can not shoot for a score. I was a MD at a club annual Friday and a shooter declared herself illegal to me before the first round was fired. Because of medical issues, she shoots a 20 gauge and a .32 mag Marlin, two illegal guns. She said she was there to shoot and have fun and didn't care about the score. I respect that and the other shooters did too. JFN
