  1. If it works, yes. Seen a lot of shotguns that were worn out and real problems. If you like the game you'll probably take 10 inches off the barrel.
  2. I have no idea. I have been told the changes to the M12 were not consistent. Some had flags and some didn't.
  3. Like most M12 shooters I have come to the opinion that a M12 works better with a cartridge guide (flag) on the carrier. The first lesson was that all those rough milling and machine marks on the carrier are there for a reason. The roughness slows down the incoming round until the hull can be ejected. Otherwise the round will catch the hull as it leaves the port and create a stove pipe. I polished mine and had to regrind it to make it rough again. The next lesson was that there are different carriers. My first carrier w/flag I bought off eBay and the second I robbed out of a 3" duck gun. While both my M12s worked, occasionally I would get a hull trapped by the incoming round and stovepipe the hull out of the port. Thinking I just needed to replace them I went shopping for carriers w/flags. I found that the 2 3/4" carrier is different from the 3" carrier and both of mine were from 3" shotguns. The first photo is a carrier from a 3" duck gun. There is no lip to stop the incoming round. When installed the round stops against the action. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/gnat15/IMG_0701_zps7antb5tj.jpg The second photo is a 2 3/4" carrier. The lip stops the incoming round before it hits the action. Since the round is stopped earlier it can't trap the hull as it leaves the port. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/gnat15/IMG_0702_zpskumrbhrk.jpg Now both my M12s have the correct carrier. I ran close to 200 rounds through one at EoT & the side matches with zero stove pipes. So when you shop for carriers look closely, there are a lot of 3" carriers being sold as simply M12 carriers. 4. They are! I am getting ready to order the 2017 buckles from the same company. And when I get them I will post the photos here now that Tully told me how! JFN
  5. http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag7/gnat15/2buckles_zpsti9lzeif.jpeg Thanks Tully that is it. For some reason (I use a Mac?) the IMG button doesn't work. But the HTML copy button did. I was beginning to wonder if anyone would tell me how to do it. JFN
  6. How does the "insert image" button work? I see that some of you have figured out how to insert an image in the text of your post. How did you do that? So far all I have been able to do is attach a photo at the bottom that you have to click on. JFN
  7. Ok, my Krag carbine has a push up peep sight on the rear of the regular sight. Is it legal to open it up to make it useable? JFN
  8. Boggus if you find a link, post it for us.
  9. Only if your carrier has the hole for the flag. I have installed one on a carrier that had the hole, no problem. Recently I was told by a gunsmith that it was nearly impossible to drill the hole in the right spot if the carrier didn't have one.
  10. Sam, There are a number of bead front sights. The SDM is large and mounted with a .140 U notch rear sight made by 10-8 it gave me the sight picture I wanted.
  11. Sam, Missed you this year. Here is where I got mine. http://www.sdmfabricating.com/index.htm Remember they are not finished. JFN
  12. Yes, if you shoot modern. Not for traditional. I used neon green until I went to a brass bead. JFN
  13. As best as I can remember it went like this: Idaho Sixgun Sam - Lady Modern Second Fiddle Sue - Lady Modern Senior Lacey D'Oyly - Lady Traditional Lawless Lill - Lady Traditional Senior Last Chance Morales - Modern General Jubal Early - Modern Senior Garrison Joe - Traditional Tex - Traditional Senior Mens Overall - Last Chance Morales Lady Overall - Idaho Sixgun Sam
  14. Sighters? Last two BAMM matches sighters were not allowed. Why? every range and elevation is different. No sighters? I am leaving my BAMM rifle at home. I've shot Service Rifle and F class and shooters get to have sighters. So, let me know if there are sighters so I will know whether to leave my BAMM rifle at home. JFN
  15. The New Mexico State Wild Bunch Championship for 2016 is in the books and a great time was had by all. Great stages, great weather, great food; what else can I say? Oh yeah the results: Modern - Boggus Deal Traditional - Mica McGuire Lady Modern - Texas Tiger Lady Traditional - Lady Jane Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all who came! JFN
  16. This might help someone. At WR several shooters were describing hollowing out their new G2 grips to get their pistol back below the weight limit. Brownells sells an aluminum alloy mainspring housing (item #100801017) made by Fusion Arms. I weighed my steel one on my powder scale and it was 751.1 gr. The aluminum one weighed 240.1 gr. for a difference of 511.4 gr. At 437.5 gr./oz. that is a little less than 1.17 oz. decrease in weight. Of course no two parts will weigh exactly the same but this is one way to get a little over an ounce of weight off if you add those heavy G2 grips.
  17. For me it is a bandana through the trigger guard. The last thing I do before calling for time is to look down the line at all my guns to make sure I am ready. The red bandana would tell me that the trigger on the M12 has not been declared. JFN
  18. Oh Wow, Goatneck that is funny! And you are correct, it looks like Dusty's photo. Though I can't imagine Griff's EXes ever looking for him, but possibly all his EXes live in Texas. Sure missed having a visit with you at WR. Hopefully we can catch up at EoT? JFN
  19. Joe, Chased all those rabbits and then some more. My statement still stands. JFN
  20. Griff, At the risk of "justifying their existence" I will answer your question. The main reason I like SP brass is it is much easier to load, specifically to prime than LP brass. I seem to have zero problems with high primers and primers that are difficult to seat. Second, I find that SP loads are more consistent in velocity, a narrower spread from high to low. Third, I can buy once fired SP brass way cheaper. Fourth, SP brass has a heavier web. When you cut one in half, the web and sidewall at the base are thicker like a 45 GAP or a Starline +P. Which should make it stronger in unsupported areas. LP brass runs 78-79 pieces a pound while SP brass runs 72 pieces a pound. As a side note, I have found that my 45 ACP '73 rifle needs nearly new LP brass to run well and fire every time. But, use any SP brass and problems go a way. I have a 5 gallon bucket full (5000+ pieces) that is half way through its 10th reload. I try not to take it to the local matches unless I am out of LP loads. That is my practice brass. If I have to use it (like last month) I warn every one to check their brass carefully, because I know a lot of shooters don't like it. JFN
  21. AW & GJ sorry for the misunderstanding. I posted the above for information only. Since I shoot primarily small primer brass, I have been asked if there is a difference in velocity. While I felt that small primer brass lowered the velocity, I had never compared them side by side. My only fallacy in the test is that the primers are not all from the same manufacturer; as, I am now wondering if all Winchester primers are "hotter." So let me be clear. I don't feel the need nor compunction to justify a superior brass to you or anyone else. :) JFN
  22. Who is this Shell Stuffer? I saw his name on the WR results. He would have won overall if he hadn't of had a SDQ. And even with the SDQ he still placed 3rd overall. Good shooter, I look forward to meeting him. JFN
  23. Someone asked how did small primer 45 acp compare to large primer 45 acp velocity/power factor. I had a chance to run a comparison last week. Used the same machine to load all 4 test loads. The only thing I changed was the primer feed. The Winchester small primer magnum loads were the big surprise. See the pdf below. JFN SP_vs_LP.pdf
  24. Now that looks nice. I hope that all the state champion conchos from SASS are like that this year. The previous year's conchos were too generic. At WR I noticed that Silver Heart and Lacey D'Oyly had a local silversmith make a ring to mount the concho in that gave the state and year. It looked real nice. JFN
