Why is the Big Boy not legal?
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to lostvaquero's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
Gentlemen, I see a break down in communication. Grub slinger is making a statement of fact, not a position of argument. He is communicating that Happy Jack of the wild bunch committee is stating the Henry big boy IS legal in the proper caliber as of June 1, 2016. Dusty Boddams :) -
LD, ;D I think you're on to something! It's old fashioned but here is his phone number. 575-625-2825 Norm Pucella , a great friend to shooters and BAMM in particular! His bulets are high quality and very reasonably priced but I'm not saving any money .........I am shooting twice as much! 8). Dusty

Testing bullets from Norm Purcella for the 8 mm Mauser. The only problem that the 8mm has is good commercial lead bullet availability and bullets lighter than 200 + grains are almost non existent. Most all for sale are .323. I've been in talks with Norm about this and here is the bullet now being made. It's a spire type bullet.its about 168 grains. It's gas checked. It's hytek coated. It's available in .323 or .325 It's nothing short of great! I shot several 3 shot 100 yard groups with 3 different rifles and turned in several 3/4" groups. My Turkish Mauser shot 1 1/2"! Best groups were obtained at .325 in my rifles. So if you have or want to get an 8mm but couldn't find good lead bullets Norm has got you covered. Dusty Boddams

Slide lock malfunction or inoperative
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to Lone Dog's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
LD, I really think that answer rests with the shooter because he is in charge of policing his own gear. The question would be does the competitor Want to put up with a pistol that's not reliable? Move with the slide down one time buys a sdq move with it twice and you just bought a shiny new match DQ. Sometimes a problem develops and if a shooter doesn't have a spare or gets a loaner he could just be careful to make sure the slides back before moving and have to mess with it the whole time. Hey on th upside I bet the old pistola could be bought cheap after the shooter puts up with it a whole weekend. Dusty -
;D ;D L.D. Knows if you put them mags together wrong them bullets could face the wrong way! ::) ;D

;D BB, what a well made video! It's good enough that it could be used to advertise WB! Great music to boot. I like your target presentation and costuming to. WELL DONE! Dusty Boddams

What is the interest in BAM Matches?
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to Grouchy Spike's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
SJC, That would be correct at a stand alone BAM match under its rules or if your MD allowed it at your monthly wild bunch match. This wouldn't be allowed at a state level and above per wbas rules. I can see no reason not to allow it at a monthly , levers shoot against levers they are using the BAMM stage or stages. The more shooters we get involved in our game even if for a side match, some will buy bolt guns and some will become wbas competitors and some will do both. ;D Dusty -

What is the interest in BAM Matches?
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to Grouchy Spike's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Griff, depends on what your after 03's are bringing more than mausers for the same quality. The most expensive rifle is that cheap shot out one because parts ain't cheap and neither are good gunsmiths. Lipstick is cheap for a mechanically good gun. I myself won't consider one with an iffy bore for our game. -
What is the interest in BAM Matches?
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to Grouchy Spike's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
GS, I agree the old battle rifles seem to increase quickly in price. I still have my mosin carbine it cost 65.00 but the only reason it was so high is it included ammo! Still even with prices what they are it represents a bargain as for as bamm goes. Any other match/side match weaponry is more expensive. I have some of the 179.00 yugo 24/47 and am amazed at how good they are of course now these are 350.00 but still pretty cheap compared to others. BAMM is alive and well at cvv we shoot at least 2 stages after main match sometimes 3 or 4. We always try and keep it mixed up with movement, varied distances and round count. As an example we have shot as few as 5 rounds. Rifle empty on table shooter 6' away ATB shooter retrieves and charges rifle shoots 2 targets moves and shoots 3 more. Sometimes 10 and as high as 15 rounds with a lot of different stages. BAMM has also taken off and fired the imagination of shooters in Oklahoma ! Hondo Tweed and his rough riders have there own day just for bamm and 45 auto I think it's the fourth weekend on Saturday. We shoot only lead at Ormsby ranch and its up to the shooters as to hardness, speed and there is no power factor. It seems to me from shooting this game and the amount of folks I talk with that all the lead shooters run 15 to 1700 fps. This results in a light kicking very pleasant round that about equals a 357 magnum out of a rifle. It also enables shooting at mild steel without destroying targets. You can still dimple them at 60 yards but won't crater them usually. Try that with factory jacket and you will be impressed in the old rifles power. BAMM as my original concept was as a stand alone shooting venue it has its own rule book with extended category's including a lot of different rifles sporterized, duffle cut, garand ,lever action to include 95 Winchester and 99 savage. Bruce Jarrett and myself started out experimenting on ways to shoot this because we both have had mil spec bolt guns for many years and wanted a competition that represented battle , balancing speed and accuracy . Goatneck went wild when he saw it and became its champion he has promoted it and made it known. Evil Roy has always been very enthusiastic since first seeing it and is a big promoter of it. Since it is a side match of wild bunch the rule book needed shrinking down to a minimum so folks wanting to shoot this match could know what to expect and how to play. The course of fire is up to the MD. As is round count etc. At a monthly match just as HJ said don't turn them away for wrong equipment let them shoot for fun. Also if you have 2 or more of the wrong rifles let them shoot against each other. If you have 2 rifle caliber lever actioneers then it should be called LAM. Important thing to remember is any subcategory is its own match levers Never shoot against bolts. bolts never shoot against Garands. At monthly matches or stand alone matches there many great ways to have a lot of fun. I'm going to a match before long that will have about 50 yards of movement with up to 25 shot strings plus some pistol thrown in.different yes BAMM yes! Dusty Boddams -
Moly Coated bullets gained 87 fps

Moly Coated bullets gained 87 fps
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to Grouchy Spike's topic in Reloading for Wild Bunch
;DGS, we've been using the moly coated and now the hytec coated bullets and I am sold on them. The guns stay cleaner with accuracy as good or better. I didn't check for increased velocity out of the 30/06 but wouldn't doubt it. The 30 cal is about 170 spire point with an aluminum gc and hytec coated. It's a cat daddy! Dusty -
GS, the k-31 is a heck of a rifle . I've heard it compared to a Rolex as far as quality goes and I agree with that. Super accurate to boot at least all the ones I've been in contact with. Flawless with factory ammo but if handloading better bring the A game. I would imagine that we don't have the brute force camming action to seat a less than perfect round as we do with the mausers. When I started loading for mine I experienced that click also. It's especially loud when the timers running! Careful adjustment of the dies and particular attention to detail goes along way in curing this. Bruce Jarrett has more than one and has got them running well. Dusty

JFN, you're talking about the factory barrel sight and the flip up being the graduated ladder with the peep sight? If so that would be legal to open up. I would be conservative as a little goes a long way and it's easier to open it up twice than trying to put some back. Dusty

Possible reason: 45 Colt can't be loaded from the top in my '73 due to COL. One of these days I'll get around to trying with 45 Schofield and/or C45S Have you tried a slightly shorter OAL?

Griff, yes I did save it. ;D Put it in a clean mason jar and screwed the lid down real tight to hermeticly seal it. Punched some holes in the top so it wouldn't suffocate. Do you feel that was the best course of action? Do you think sailing the case across my pond with my genuine whamo sling shot would hide it better? ;D Dusty

GJ, good point and to add to that c45s mixed in with acp will stop the presses! I actually had this happen (sorry Griff ) had a c45s mixed in and it dropped and indexed to the plate and of course stopped right there. Pre inspection of brass did not catch that piece of brass. Had to be Griff cause he has a Marlin 16" that he converted and built works well but needs lipstick, the rifle NOT Griff !
