  1. Best and cheapest if the current crop of 24/47 mausers or m48 which is the exact same rifle minus an arsenal rebuild. Mosins in carbine and rifle are good solid guns. Stepping up 03 and 03a3's . Main thing is condition. Don't buy junk,go get one with the best bore to be found load lead and go BAMM.
  2. LD, cowtown scout shoots a krag and he will surprise you how fast it can be loaded. He grabs 5 off a prairie belt flips open the lunch box and just drops them in. Very slick and well practiced. Dusty
  3. GS, 17's are lots of fun! I've got a smith and a couple of Colts. Capt. Jarrett was talking about how versatile the 45acp is and that a CAS/WB competitor could just use a 45acp out of rifle ,1911 and Saa and compete in both disaplines. Well I have uberti with a 45acp cylinder and he has a pair of Rugers convertibles . We decided to shoot a cowboy stage for fun with them as an experiment. Found out really quick that while using the same cartridge makes sense using the same load does not! Them pistols was rowdy! Fun test though.....hey that's a neat BAMM bench that got made, should work well for all involved. Dusty Boddams
  4. Well on the BAMM rifles it just makes sense because we have shooters doing sling wraps and throwing lead off hand. LD, get that mosey ready cause we are going to have a large time!
  5. BD and WBT, I'm with y'all on this and all I shoot now is wild bunch. I really enjoy the challenges of the game as played now. We don't have large monthlies but those that do attend are very enthusiastic about wild bunch and they all enjoy the game as played. We have a standing open invitation to all to shoot any sass legal rifle any 1911 and any pump shotgun shooting open class and not competing as score is not kept. No takers to speak of. As far as the droves of masses shooting it do we really need to worry about that? As long as we get enough new shooters to sustain it and we are all having a great time. Leading the horse to water comes to mind........people that don't really want to shoot the game will always find an excuse. WBT I bet the 1917's are rowdier than what's expected with the loads we shoot. One more thought.......Sass was not an overnight sensation like a lot of folks think it was. In 1991 I joined and got the badge number 1907. Grif looked at my new badge I so proudly wore and said"my god Dusty there's gonna be 2000 people in sass before you know it!" His badge number is 93! Maybe WB growth is still in the future. Dusty Boddams
  6. Slings are legal on BAMM rifles.......
  7. I don't know, sounds to lite to me. Maybe seeking out a compadre with a chronograph would be the most prudent. Dusty
  8. Ck, I would say the flash hider is not legal as it was never on one in the military at any time. Why don't you just get the knurled nut that came on them and that would be correct , look sharper and I bet more pleasant for the other BAMM shooters by not throwing muzzle blast out sideways. Mauser slings are all pretty much the same.......Dusty Boddams
  9. AM, for another different taste of rules go shoot an IDPA match.starting cocked and locked, heavy emphasis on tactical reloads retaining the magazine that still has cartridges and cover. You don't reload in the open and you always shoot from cover. If not done properly to the rules the competitor is penalized by time for not retaining the mag, reloading in the open and not having a good percentage of the body behind cover while shooting and reloading. Oh and I almost forgot "slicing the pie" where from cover when you peek out shoot the first visable target then lean out some more and shoot the next etc. ;D and ya get to tape cardboard targets! I like to shoot several different gun games in addition to WB which is my favorite. I find the different rules and how the games are played as interesting and fun. Dusty Boddams
  10. Ok state WB was a true wild bunch match that stayed true to form ! This one was worth the price of admission! Many thanks to paladenton and crew for having this match at the Stillwater rifle and pistol club. Cook out sat after the main match featuring hamburgers expertly grilled by Donna denton, paladentons better half. BAMM was as always lots of fun and taking the BAMM rifles out to 500 yards was a hoot! Lots of different targets entertained the shooters with poppers throwing clays, statics, big little , close, far, all sizes of pepper poppers, falling plates , novelty targets, bears and even a moose! After the side match the 45's were used again at aerial targets thrown from those same poppers. Fun match with a unique teem shoot to boot......Dusty Boddams
  11. GS, first off thank you for doing all the expirimentation to get the k31 truly up and running. Secondly thank you for sharing this with everyone! I know there were a lot of hours spent trying to figure this one out. For the record I think the k31 has to be one of the best quality mil spec bolt guns out there and I think it's cartridge is world class. Reloading this cartridge after you figuring it out won't be much harder than loading any other BAMM class rifle. Dusty Boddams
  12. J frank, when I first thought of the idea of a 73 in 45 acp it was because I wanted to shoot one round out of rifle and pistol and not have to count to make sure I had enough carbine ammo. Of course it's got to be remembered that I'm not a gunsmith so I talked to some gunsmiths and they said absolutely not no way no how. Luckily I had the ability of an 6th grade education and was able to read a tape measure. Hired the barrel set back which is critical and piece milled the rest together and as they say the rest is history. As a side note the first conversion I did was to a marlin to 45acp the second gun was the 73. The marlin had the ability to make a person drink whiskey and say naughty words! The 73 was a piece of cake by comparison. Couple of things I noticed about my conversions were they are more accurate and no blow by. What's your rifle doing? Dusty
  13. mine run really well! Dusty Boddams
  14. BTT because this is still great information for BAMM shooters
  15. I'm sure others will chime in but I would say returning back to holster and no call due to the fact the pistol was not charged and did not leave the shooters control. The pistol once charged can not be returned to leather and if the pistol had been charged he could have just shot it out of order and taken the p or the pistol could have been cleared , slide locked back and layer on table until ready for use. With no penalty but time accrued. I'm sure HJ or some ambassadors will respond shortly. Dusty
  16. J Frank, I agree. In wild bunch the goal is to shoot the best match possible as quick as possible. Due to the nature of other gun games I play and the WB matches I have shot it's hard to understand the mind set of "only one clean match" as the game is played now with the number of shots, targets, speed. That "one match clean" is a big deal,it's a rarity. Something to be admired and an achievement when accomplished. I have shot one clean match in WB. I have won a few state championships so for me winning a match is way more common than shooting clean. It's a rare feat to be celebrated. Now if the game changes to say less shooting or easier target presentation so a clean match is common then that feat is diminished ,it's not held in the highest regard. It could even be said if enough shot clean it would be common. I'm sure though everyone could really feel good about there selves but what would really would have been accomplished? Dusty Boddams
  17. I'm not speaking of legal/illegal acquired ammunition at all . what I am saying is that a round( number 3 from your example) is not a dead round until the stage is over. in wb it is legal to retrieve an ejected round and use it. such as a round that you are trying to call dead which I suppose you are trying to make unavailable to the shooter. just to be clear the shooter does not have to pickup that round ,it is just an option the shooter has.
  18. ;D ;D ;D ;D CONGRATULATIONS TO CAPTAIN SAM EVANS NATIONAL WILD BUNCH CHAMPION !!!!!!!!!!!!! That's right apparently the Bursey boys were on the prowl at winter range and not taking prisoners. hats off job well done. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE OTHER MAIN MATCH AND SIDE MATCH WINNERS AT WINTER RANGE !!!
  19. it really takes way less than a whole inch to cause lots of problems here. as I said you can lengthen the forcing cone and that helps recoil . no reason to lengthen the chamber. Hi quality recoil pads really help. there is some other trick stuff that money can be spent on barrel wise but if sporting clays and trap aren't in the game it's probably not the best money spent. I would think just slicked up and 100% reliability would be the name of the game. however if you did do all this stuff it won't hurt the shotgun , just the pocketbook. dusty
  20. well howdy LD! you could try water'n down the whiskey and go to a lighter load. oh I just see your new post. you can lengthen the forcing cone and that helps with recoil. probably would help the pattern as far as consistency also. I don't think any model 12's are short chambered. ya'll snowed in? dusty
  21. good info gs! CDR, the pistol might just have super heavy springs. Might be gunked up with who knows what. before thrown down on the kitchen table a good cleaning and different springs might go along way. also don't forget to use the best mags you can get your hands on it will solve a lot of problems. speaking of mags and I know everyone knows this already but the mags need to be taken down and scrubbed out every so often and should be treated with enough care so as not to get the sides bent or the lips tweeked. of course when we used to buy mags for 2.00 surplus if something happened it was just tossed now with some high quality mags costing dang near 40.00 well its time to care for them just a little better. dusty
  22. DD, in what capacity are you speaking of? no round is dead to the shooter until the stage is over. lets say a shotgun round receives a lite strike and is ejected hits the table or ground its not dead the shooter can pick it up and run thru the gun again. dusty
  23. Well actually you can. Taken with my WB match gun a les Baer at 45 yards.non typical 14 point . One shot 230 hp. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll37/jhurst/imagejpg1_zpscdc25ffe.jpg
  24. Jfrank,I don't doubt for a minute that it won't be a large time! I am going to make it out that way one of these days. Dusty
