BAMM Rifle in the Cowboy Chronicle
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to J. Frank Norfleet's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
LV, If you can get a BAMM together I think it will be very well received. Texas state this year held the BAMM on Friday and more than 85% of the registered shooters attended! A really good way to get interest in BAMM starts with one or two shooters having a rifle and plenty of ammo announce a demo at the end of the monthly match show folks unfamiliar with stripper clips and bolt actions how to do what then let them shoot a course of fire 10 rounds at hittable targets. Hooked! Did this at a state match when we were just beginning, handed the rifle to Grouchy Spike he shoots the course enjoys goes home to South Texas and is directly responsible for getting it off the ground, noticed and into comancheria days. I bet he has personally gotten at least 30-35 shooters involved in BAMM. -
BAMM Rifle in the Cowboy Chronicle
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to J. Frank Norfleet's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
First all thank you everyone for the kind words. LV , Garand Action Military Match GAMM. Yes it is a later rifle. Yes it is an absolute blast. Although it is later there are ton’s of these out there already in shooters hands and there’s not the type of match like BAMM for them so we shot garands at state as a side match and it was extremely well received! Wild bunch competitors are shooters that like variety and challenges. Bottom line it’s fun! GAMM is just a local grassroots side match. I take it you mean an 03 hammerless pocket colt? Actually we’ve been kicking that around as another possible side match and have been using mostly a hammerless 380 to experiment with. Excellent little pistols that are surprisingly accurate! Lots of 32 and 380’s already out there. At the Texas state match we always try to put on well thought out side matches that are different and entertaining. We had 10 side matches at 18’ who knows what excitement awaits shooters in 19’? I think you need to pack your bags and travel to our next state match. I will put a Garand in your hands and a smile on your face! Dusty B -
Seeking advice on CMP for an M1 Garand
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to C.N. Double's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Howdy C.N.D, I think you will be happy with a service grade rifle. These are nice guns. Cmp seems to be very conservative on descriptions and bore wear. Usually they are better than described. It’s just that leap of faith that has to be taken because they are picking it out and sending it to you. Both mine came from cmp I think my best one was a special service grade and it came in with an LMR barrel and mostly all matching with new wood. The rifle I had at state is a field grade rifle and it’s a good solid rifle but not near as nice the other. -
Dang! Impressive!

45acp 230gr load with W231?

Jfrank 4.0 wst with a 230 -
Howdy all, first off this ain’t no commercial. I use Tripp’s magazines for my competition pistols and I use Wilson’s for my carry. Very happy with them in respective rolls. Grouchy spike sent me an email showing ed Brown mags and the promo going on. So I ordered some for door prizes at the Texas state match and ordered one to keep. Took it out and ran it thru the gun 10-15 times. Ran perfect ejected perfect. No tuning or messing with it. So for the deal, send in a crappy mag and 10.00 and they will ship you a new ed Brown mag. Gathered up 7 of these and sent off for 9mm 1911 mags. They came in 85.00 for 7 mags with shipping. Loaded them all up with 9 rounds and went to slinging lead. No jams,no failures to drop......I’m impressed!

New WB shooter, lots of questions
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to Boomstick Bruce's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
BB, great thing they are in top condition! No use putting up with junk when good ones like this are to be had. You’ll really enjoy the model 12’s as WB guns.🤠 hey you might even use them more like this than when they were scoped and compensated. -
New WB shooter, lots of questions
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to Boomstick Bruce's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
BB, maybe Goatneck will see this and chime in. I’ve cut several solid rib guns and no big deal. If you took the cutts off there would be a ring that could be cut off flush with the vent rib . However if your shortening the barrel I think talking to someone that’s cut several would be a good thing. It’s a lot easier to make it shorter than longer!🤠 -
I would think changing it to left hand would be illegal same with the diopter sight. Fairness would dictate loading 5 although I have been to some monthly’s a couple of times where they load 6 but it’s 10 total so either way it’s a reload somewhere along the line. I think rcbs makes dies and ppu brass. The brass can’t be made from anything local except 284 Winchester so it’s easier and cheaper to buy the ppu.

DUSTY BODDAMS replied to Boomstick Bruce's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
BB, if those are marked with choke constriction on barrel then the chokes have been added. Shooting with these things on the end of the gun looks like a coffee can from shooters view. Collectibility is gone with all the scope mount holes anyway. Your gun and your choice but how many cutts compensated scoped model 12’s does a feller really need? ;) You’re in them at a smoking deal and they would be perfect for WB by just removing trinkets. Dusty Boddams -
They are legal and do very well with cast gas checked bullets. Capt. Bruce Jarrett and Grouchy Spike use these to good effect. I think they both use .310 from Norm Purcella. The brass to feed these are available and made by ppu. The rifles are very well made very close tolerances. HooDoo Brown loads customammo for folks that don’t want to load there own. One thing about this rifle, it will not function with anything less than perfect handloads. K31’s also feature really good sights for our game. Dusty B

I don’t think a bent bolt is that new of technology because the original 1924 type 1 carbine featured bent bolts and side sling swivels. Type 2 carbines featured straight bolts with side sling swivels. Standard sling swivels for rifles. Of course we are speaking of original 1924 rifles not the arsenal rework guns of the 24/47 period. The intermediate action is original to the m24 design not to be confused with the vz24 on the full length action. The model 24 and 48 share the same action, you can swap the bolts. I’m not positive but I think 1924 predated Sept.2,1945
-
HJ, will do.
-
The model 48 was not designed after ww2. It was built post war. The 24/47 was rebuilt post war. The barrels, sights, stocks, bolts all can swapped with each other. All model 48’s have bent bolts. Some 24/47 do. Samco imported bent bolt 24/47. The model 48 is very close cosmetically to the German ww2 standard issue rifle of ww2. 24/47 and mod 48 were being built and rebuilt all at the same time in the same factory using a lot of the same parts. The main thing really about the model 48 is new wood and new actions were used instead of refurbished old ones. There were even scrubbed versions of the mod 48 called B.O. that had no markings of any kind. To say the model 48 is a different design is laughable at best. This rifle is legal for BAMM because of how it is built. A rifle to be BAMM legal does not have to be built before the end of ww2. We are competitors shooting competitions. ;D fire away Joe! BAMM - Help me pick one of these 03A3s
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to C.N. Double's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
LTS, ;D your groups look plenty good. That off hand group is great when you throw out the flyer. At the Texas state championship we will be inside of 120 yards for sniper and 100 yards max for the combat. Both will feature different target presentation and promise to be a large time! We have plenty of side matches to thrill and entertain! We’re even having an 8 shot Garand stage (GAMM) Garand Action Military Match. So if you have one get some lead ammo together for it and bring it with you. Dusty Boddams -
Enlighten me about the Krag Jorgensen rifle
DUSTY BODDAMS replied to lostvaquero's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Original carbines are just fine. Bores are a big deal. Always buy the best bore available. If the krag rings your bell then a krag is what you need! There’s plenty out there just keep looking. Dusty -

LV, sporter rifle won’t work for BAMM. It needs to look original with correct looking full wood and have its original battle sights. Dusty -

DUSTY BODDAMS replied to lostvaquero's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Ok all in the quest for knowledge and very little experimentation I checked out a couple of ways. Garrison Joe video of the Russian stripper clip is true, it works. Think of it more as a guide to place the 5 rounds. It’s pretty fast. I think with practice it could be competitive. Grouchy Spike ,I’ve got one of the poly somewhere but all I had handy was originals, the rim wouldn’t slide in and with that cardboard stuff there would be no forcing it. I could see how the poly might work. Interesting stuff! Dusty B -

GJ, thanks for posting the Pankhurst link. Very interesting! I did not know about this. The mosin clip look like it fed slicker than slick also. I bet that would be the way to go if it works that well in person. What type of krag do you have? Are you building it for BAMM or gaf or cmp? Or? Dusty -

Hey they are a lot of fun and smooth as glass! I know a competitor that uses one and he grabs 5 off his prairie belt ,has the cartridges held between his thumb and first finger drops them in and he is fast with it. Like the old joke how do you get to Carnegie hall—— practice. Main thing is to have fun with it and if it’s got a good bore it is shocking how good they shoot. Dusty -

DUSTY BODDAMS replied to lostvaquero's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Howdy LV. Krags are great rifles, legal for BAMM,accurate and smooth. Good sights. The draw back——- is the side opening lunch box, cartridges fed in one at a time without a stripper clip. The perceived advantage in real life would be the rifle can be topped off while still in battery and ready to fire. The krag action is said to not be as strong as the mausers due to the number of lugs and placement but are plenty strong enough for factory loads or less. I have a 30-40 and use .310 lead bullets . I think it was Norway used the 6.5x55 in the 1894 and 1912 krags. Neat old rifle. I think it would be a lot of fun for BAMM but I think seeing one in the winners circle would be a rarity. BD, plus 1 for the sonic cleaner.

BD, ;D what Grouchy said plus shoot between 5 and 15 rounds. We start bolt open 5 in magazine and commence the fight from there. Sniper we started shooting after seeing Grouchy’s at comancheria day’s. This is usually sitting with no movement. Combat we usually shoot 15, 5 from 3 different locations at targets from 55 out to 85 or so. Sniper has been shot to 200 but usually lives around 100-120 yards. Target size means a lot. You can have a sniper match 70-80 yards with smaller targets and have all the challenges you would care to have. Remember BAMM is very flexible! Shot Oklahoma state WB recently and the sniper match consisted of a prop car with a target on top moving 50’ from cover to cover reversing and traveling back at around 85 yards. Fun and interesting!
