  1. ;D jfrank, from what I remember about the state match I walked away thinking not many really cared one way or the other. I remember thinking that I thought it was strange, that people would be more polarized than what they were. As a side note we had a small group for WB after the state match and decided we would shoot one seven round stage. Disaster! I'm sure if it was all stages and practice was done with 7 it would work just fine but mags were ejected at 5 and everything was thrown off. I'm still in the don't care camp. If we went to 7 tomorrow I will practice, get in the new groove and be ready to compete. One more thing though,I think that everyone that thinks they would like 7 to go shoot a match with 7 and then decide what they want. Dusty Boddams
  2. Bc, think George clooney in o brother where art thou. The guy that drove the getaway car in Bonnie and Clyde. James coburn in duck you sucker when he was on the motorcycle at the shows beginning.old timey golfers. The great gatsby.I think they also called them 7 panel caps. Factory workers, farmers, newsboys , rich folks, everybody wore this cap for 20-30 years in that era. They actually had lots of different styles of this cap. Good costuming cap because it's versatile.
  3. ;D ;D PG, one more thing about costuming ...........wild bunch is first and foremost a shooting competition...... the costume you are thinking of would be great. As far as worrying about everything being absolutely correct....in a word...DON'T. A friend of mine who has some great costuming summed it up best he calls it movie correct.
  4. Pg, Corcoran jump boots are perfectly legal and are in the spirit of WB. I wear these and know of several other competitors that wear them. They have the correct sole and the correct look and are very comfortable. With leggings they look a lot like the original marching shoe pre ww1. In a civilian costume with the britches leg over them they look like just a early 1900's lace up boot. I put leather laces in mine and that made them look even better and they don't untie accidentally. Dusty Boddams
  5. Also if you're lacking strength use the overhand BD describes and hold the slide and push the pistol .
  6. ;D ;D that sounds like a heck of a lot of fun Allie ! So do you have to use the outhouse cause the stage is so long? ;). Dusty
  7. LD, it might of been set just a few years north of 1907 when you think about it...................................otherwise we would be trying to find 1905 colts and boy that's tough! ;D ;D hey did you get moved to fannin county yet? dusty
  8. Howdy NK, I don't know. Billy bob our club president might of done it . He is usually the photographer. I will ask him. Dusty
  9. ;D ;D BD, there's no dress rehearsal better go ahead and buy them! I shoot a colt some in WB that was made in 1912. Other than being unfriendly to the hand because of the abbreviated grip safety it shoots really well. Dusty
  10. Howdy BD, I have seen several of these old pistols Fred has a few of them and billy bob ,the president of cvv shoots one at every match little sights and all. Fred put some better sight on his but these are cool old guns if you wanted to shoot a vintage colt this is the most economical way to do it.also the ones I shot were good pistols they functioned reliably and were just pretty dang accurate. 11. GJ, you could shoot at devil man however you wanted if you wanted to brace against the door frame that was fine. Nobody cleaned the stage, I was clean until the birds and dropped 2. I think the fastest time was just over 60 seconds. That's about as long as you can hold your breath isn't it? :o Everyone had a ball shooting it but anymore might of been to much. Devil man was also our long range fastest pistol target 5 shots most hits fastest time. We also had fastest pistol dueling tree 5 up 5 down. Also had 10 shot BAMM single position with same target order and presentation as bammbalooza . We had shotgun team match with birds thrown from a commercial wobble trap. and fastest shotgun that was 6 birds thrown with the button held down on a commercial clay bird thrower. We had a lot of side matches that were different and a lot of fun. Have y'all ever noticed wild bunch shooters like to shoot a bunch! ;D
  12. Ok GJ, here goes bammbalooza was billed as an event instead of a side match and it had had a story line but the meat of it was this---shooter begins at the north door of the mercantile.rifle with bolt open 5 in the mag. At the beep proceed to left window and from any position shoot the driver then El Jefe the passenger in the back seat then the three outriders (we had a model T cutout with steel targets for driver and passenger wearing sombreros) range 90-110 yards.proceed to right window and repeat with rifle.grounding rifle draw pistol shoot plate rack with cigarette and cola cans on end sized targets plate rack. Move to center door engage dueling tree then engage "devil man" for five shots( he was at 90 yards).proceed to left window engage second dueling tree with five and ground pistol. Then run to the right hand porch and engage 6 shotgun targets (these are all clay birds thrown from a commercial thrower with the button held down). That was Bammbalooza 14' . Any more woulda been to much! Dusty Boddams
  13. GJ, you stud ! Slung up and hind legs! Way to go. We are having a large time with BAMM . JFN, as you know the great thing about BAMM as a side match is it can be as quick or as long as the M.D. Wants it to be we sometimes have 15 shot three position matches sometimes 10 shot 2 position and then of course our standard 10 shot single position with the reload on the clock and as you've seen we will vary the distances from 75 to around 125 yards. And then Who could forget bammbalooza at the Texas State match? Dusty B
  14. Rudstoy, gotta ask what used for the "backup" pistol? Dusty
  15. GJ, ;D I thought I heard that's what you had on your 8 mm! Dusty
  16. NTJ , I've got some WPG gear also and it seems to be really well made. Hey you think they built your britches on a Friday ::) and they were in a hurry to leave so they didn't sew them right ;D ;D?
  17. I agree . I use an original belt and mag pouches . Like you a repop shotgun pouch and my holster is an elpaso 1912 mounted. A more correct look can't be found and they are plenty fast. As long as they don't start timing us putting the mags BACK in! My hat is an original 5 row stitch pre ww1 campaign hat. Bought it off eBay and the sweat band was so Groady I wouldn't wear it. So I send it in to a hattery and told them to just replace the sweat band. It comes back and looks brand new so I started wearing it a bunch and now it looks right again and yes I got to much money in it. ;)Question what do you think of the quality of coon creek? Would you buy again? Dusty
  18. ;D NTJ, I would say the long winter payed off well. You have a great looking costume! Looks like correct belt, pouches and holster. Good job! Dusty Boddams
  19. Go to westernshootingjournal.com top right hand corner will be the word digital. Click that and it will bring up a page where you can subscribe electronically to the digital magazine. 1.89 for ,,, each issue but you can cancel anytime they say so you could buy this one issue if you wanted then cancel. 20. Jfranks, it's in the paper addition of the magazine as well as in the digital one. I don't think it's at the newsstand yet but should be there in a couple of days. I saw it on the digital magazine this afternoon. It's just about the same article as the one I wrote for Texas sportsman the Texas state rifle association magazine. Dusty Boddams
  21. ;D ;D July edition of western shooting journal has got a article entitled an introduction to wild bunch shooting in the monthly magazine written by me and I'm so dang proud I can't stand it! Dusty Boddams
  22. Slick 1892 Winchester and clones are great guns also. They are competitive due to the targets in WB being further out where you have to use the sights. Dusty
  23. Wbw, since powder is hit or miss just think standard load shotgun powder and there is a lot of that will work. Some might be better than others but the main thing is to keep the guns a running. Herco, wsl, unique,AA 2,5 and7, red dot ,bullseye,700x,231 for instance are all good for what you're doing but there are lots of others. Dusty boddams
  24. ;D V , that's a real simple ad but makes all the difference in he world . That's the same wild bunch shirt I have. I also picked up some ww2 reproduction canvas leggings when I really want to deck out . I think it makes for a sharp outfit and of course the campaign hat tops it all off. Dusty boddams
