More time is wasted on mag changes than anything else in WBAS. Don't take the gun too far down from the line of sight and practise with your eyes CLOSED. You have to feel the change to get it right. Watch shooters, most have the gun in a lowered position and canted when changing magazines. Both are time wasters. Many change the position from mag change to mag change, they don't know where they have the gun and have to look for it. GOOD LUCK.

Let's talk 1911's ==================
Happy Jack replied to CC Moonshine's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Like Boggus, I have used springs from many suppliers, but recently have gone with a lot of Springco. We are lucky to have Boggus to take care of a lot of problems with Wild Bunch guns. With the loss of Bodie and Goatneck in recent years he is one of the few who specializes in Wild Bunch guns. He is VERY good with them. -
Let's talk 1911's ==================
Happy Jack replied to CC Moonshine's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Before the stroke which left me with a bad right hand and arm (and I haven't got rid of any guns) I might be able to shoot again it's only been 3 years in March. 1. Usually a Kimber super match. but occasionally one of my many Colts. 2. Somewhere between 15 -20. When I was dealing in them I usually had 150 + at all times. 3. Kimber Ultra CDP in 45acp (an old one I bought when they were first introduced) fired thousands of rounds NEVER failed. 4. Started shooting one in the late 50's. Carried one for work in the 60s. Didn't compete with one until the late 60's. -
45ACP loads, what are you shooting?

DOC 12379 3.8 grains of WST may be a little light to make PF . Most use 4.0 or 4.1 to make a little room over PF in case they test with a cheap chrono and it is a bit off. -
In the "early days" when we first set up Wild Bunch we followed the target mfgrs. recommendation on distances. We set pistol targets at 10-12 yds. SG targets at 12-15 yds and rifle at close to 20 yds. It was a lot of fun. Aparently what is fun has changed but the lawyers haven't.

Left Hand [shooter] 1911 Mag Release Compliance
Happy Jack replied to Muggins's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
I am a left handed shooter and one of the things I LOVE about the 1911 design is that mag release is on the left side. As for your question: Changing the mag release to the right side has Always been ILLEGAL. With the new management who knows what the future may being. -
Temporary front strap grip enhancement
Happy Jack replied to C.N. Double's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
I guess since there is no longer a committee to settle nor is there a spokesman to say what the position is this it may be up to the WBAS TG's to settle. A sorry state.🤢 -
Temporary front strap grip enhancement
Happy Jack replied to C.N. Double's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
Many years ago I brought this up to Texas Jack Morales and he said it was ILLEGAL, HOWEVER, I don't think we officially addressed it in the rules. With the new administration I have no idea officially, but I think it would be allowed. -
Wow, an ES of 100?? Thats terrible. An accident waiting to happen.

I will agree with Deacon on mostly things, the only one I will comment on is magazines. They have changed a lot in recent years. McCormick was bought by Wilson and by far the most widely used by pro shooters and best magazines currently available for 1911s are the cobra mags from Tripp Research. Don't get me wrong I have had good results from Wilson, McCormick, real Colt, and Actmag, but I only shoot cobra mags anymore.

Clearing Long Guns-possible change?
Happy Jack replied to Abe E.S. Corpus's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
While clearing long guns "on the line" has some appeal I doubt it will be approved for major matches. SASS makes the final decisions on rule changes for WBAS and the Unloading table is a sacred cow for them. -
1911 "smiths" are a dime a dozen ???? There are a lot of gunsmiths, but VERY few 1911 pistol smiths. Bogus deal is one.
-
The only gunsmith I know of who turns a 45 Colt into a 45ACP is Cody Connager. I think he still does them.

Modern 1911 advice needed - much thanks
Happy Jack replied to Little Bear Torsen's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
I'm left handed too. The reverse magazine release is NOT allowed. THE safety is allowed. -
Schoen, since you haven't posted your location we don't know who to refer you to. SASS TG's have NO affiliation with the WBAS rules. CAS and WBAS are two completely different sports. Both operated under the SASS umbrella. WBAS has regional Ambassadors who act similarly to CAS TG's.

One of the inside sayings in the industry for at least 30 years is: If you want a beautiful pistol get an Ed Brown, if you want an accurate pistol get a Les Baer, if you want a pistol that always runs get a Bill Wilson. Obviously some new names like Nighthawk come along but those earlier statements still hold true. As mentioned a Baer needs a few hundred rounds to break in as they are built so tight. i've owned several of the 3 aforementioned over the years. The statements held true for mine. ENJOY

I'm not here to argue, but the Chinese clones (I have one) have all the correct arsenal markings as the original 1897 winchesters so they at least don't look like a regular gun with a heat shield added. As for a model 12 I don't know of a clone with arsenal markings. The Committee will discuss this issue as I stated earlier.
-
As already stated modifying an original sport shotgun to make it appear like a "trench gun" is NOT listed as an allowable external modification. Real model 12 "trench guns" are extremely rare and collectable so seeing an actual one (not a fake) would be unexpected at a WBAS match. Model 12 "riot guns" without the heat shield etc. are not as rare and are legal under the current rues. The RO committee will put the issue of a real model 12 trench gun on the list for discussion. In the meantime I personally feel that it would be allowed but that is not an official final decision as the wording in the rule would need to be modified.
-
Doc, it has always been ILLEGAL to modify an existing standard issue shotgun to look like it was a "trench gun" style. Adding the heat shield, bayonet lug etc. part is NOT listed as an allowable external modification.
-
Frenchie. That shotgun with the front bead changed is LEGAL in your area. We are much more lenient in countries with stricter firearm laws than we are here in the US with wide availability of obviously legal firearms.
-
Model 12's with a vent rib are pretty common and LEGAL.
-
As already mentioned two different scenarios, two different penalties. For a few years we wrote in the WBAS Match Directors guide that "split sequences" were strongly discouraged but since almost no MD's or stage writers read the MD guide we dropped it and many other things in the MD guide. I agree with Artemus that it is not a good idea but other disagree. I feel it is a "penalty trap" for traveling shooters especially when it is rarely seen in many places.

CN, All of your speculations are part of it and also at the time of writing all of the 38-40 shooters we spoke with were using 180grain bullets of lighter. While you can get 180grain bullets for 45ACP they are so light that you need to re-spring the pistol to get good performance so those things were also considered. The biggest regret I have was dropping the power factor to 150 instead of leaving it at the worldwide standard of 165. I was just trying to keep the masses used to pop gun loads from complaining. I was told by the General, the Judge and Coyote when writing the rules it was to be a big bore full power sport and the biggest mistake was the lowered power factor but it is too late now.

Shortening the hammer "a bit" that isn't really noticeable would be OK. I am sure there are many early style hammers that have been worked on in use in WBAS.
-
In response to the comment about "bobbing the hammer" it is an ILLEGAL external modification.
