  1. I have no idea when the new CAS Handbooks will be released. I expect with all the "clarifications" the ROC have issued that a new set will be released in January but have no information to support that position. The new WBAS Handbooks will be released in DEC. We continue to remove unnecessary penalties and procedures. Even as a shooter please download and read the new March Directors Guide also as it will have more information of use to all.
  2. There was support for a change at the EOT TG meeting. However a change would have to be voted on by the TG's and there are no plans for a Summit in the foreseeable future. I don't expect a change in CAS for at least three years. We are looking at it but not for 2019 as the new rules are already being reviewed before release later this year.
  3. Interesting idea, the only issue is where do you put the extra magazine to put in the pistol at he loading table?? That is why most of us use one like Mernickles.
  4. Grouchy, Yes WST for decades. The other powder that burns clean and gives remakably low SD's is VV 320.
  5. I don't clean magazines other than a cursory wipe off the outside. I've used Tripps for years with no problems. Others will feel differently. I know Garrison Joe cleans Tripps. He will probably chime in.
  6. I only use WST for 45ACP, BUT I can tell you you do NOT want to load below 160pf. Depending on the weather and the chrono in use it is not unusual to get 100fps difference and if you are close to 150 you could easily fail pf testing. PF testing results are not appealable.
  7. JTS, Welcome to Wild Bunch. Magazines are an issue with many 1911's. What works in one may not in another. The Baer pistols are known for being "tight." Very accurate but a bit finicky. Chip recently sold out to Bill Wilson. but I don't think the magazines have changed. Over the past 50+ years of shooting, building, and dealing in 1911's I have been through every magazine mfgr. In the 70's we used Chip's. In the 80's we used Bill's. some others along the way have been good and bad. Mec-gar made magazines for almost all the mfgrs. on and off over the years. Quality varied. Act-mag makes pretty good magazines. Now the most dependable magazines by far are the Cobra magazines from Tripp. Virgil has retired but the magazines are unchanged. Not everyone will be perfect, but they are by far the most dependable on the market. Since Bill bought out Chip they are introducing a new magazine with reinforced lips which sounds promising. Only time will tell. For the past 10 years I strongly recommend Tripp magazines to everyone who listen.
  8. I asked Misty about this today. She said to go to the main SASS page. Go to Wild Bunch section and supposedly it is there. I haven't looked yet. She said to put the WBAS shooters on the same page as the CAS shooters would require a complete rework of the "who's coming" page???
  9. Allie, the reason for allowing tactical reloads is that it is NOT unsafe and a common practice for all sports with semi-auto handguns. We didn't allow them for a long time. As I stated in previous posts they are legal BUT with a limited round count like we have in Wild Bunch they are almost always a bad idea. Many shooters attempted them at WR with poor results. At the Western Territorial these last 2 days I think most learned their lesson at EOT and didn't attempt them although there were 2 stages that were certainly "tactical reload friendly". I know of only 1 shooter who did one on one of those stages and it was very successful. Just because you are allowed to do something that is safe doesn't mean it is always an advantage.
  10. GJ is right about the reason for starting the stage condition 3. SASS overall guidelines. However we require the thumb safety to be checked for proper function on EVERY pistol at EVERY match. Therefore we are considering coming up with a rule that would justify its use sometime during the stage. Just thinking about it. NOT making any changes soon.
  11. I'm coming down for the WBAS match. Hope to get there Sunday before the class ends.
  12. Can't help but I think Original Lumpy Grits (OLG) on the main SASS wire might be able to help. I think he does/has used it for 45ACP. Knowledgable guy. I would trust his advise.
  13. Juiceharp, If you are serious about a 1911 in 9mm for 3 gun you may as well get what I and most of the top competitors shoot: An STI Edge or one of their really top end open class models. I shoot an Edge and it is an absolutely amazing pistol. I've been a 1911 guy for over 50 years and have owned/built/sold/collected the same all that time. The Edge is my favorite.
  14. I agree with Joe LaFives. I've shot IPSC/USPSA and IDPA for many years (40+ IPSC and a charter founding member of IDPA) and host modern 3gun matches at my range regularly. You need different pistols for different disciplines. With your budget A Glock ( I personally hate them but they function great) for 3gun/USPSA/IDPA and an inexpensive 1911 for Wild Bunch.
  15. I wasn't there, but the feedback I have received agreed with Boggus. The only problems mentioned were due to attempting to use a tactical reload. One shooter was given a reshoot because the TO stopped him (RO interference) and others ended up with a "P" or had to take extra time to clear the pistol before restaging. With the limited round count in WBAS a tactical reload at this time is usually a BAD idea. We allow them but it is up to the shooter to decide if it is an advantage. I was also told that the slide forward on an empty chamber or spent round changing from a SDQ to a MSV was well received. (especially since it happened a few times)
  16. NO. This has been discussed many times over the years and the decision has always been no.
  17. Glad the class went well. I am afraid I can't take any credit for the Power Point. LL and Serenity did it all. All I did was get the rules straightened out so they could make the presentation. Hopefully most of our shooters will take the class.
  18. It is NOT the recommended method of loading the pistol, BUT we felt it should not be against the rules to do so since it is done by some. Therefore the MSV for dropping a round in the chamber and then closing the slide is no longer against the rules. If you want to take the chance of damaging your firearm by doing it, go ahead.
  19. Dead Head, Joe LaFives was involved in writing the WBAS stages. His round count for WBAS is correct. The round count on the Website is for the main Cowboy Match.
  20. Back 40, Boggus Deal is the MD this year. I don't think there is time during setup at WR for a warm-up. He might be able to give you some more info. You might get in touch with Legendary Lawman who is always there a few days early to see if they shoot somewhere else.
  21. Jackaroo, There was a LOT of though put into the rule changes. The committee members have over 150 years combined experience with the 1911. We are not concerned about a loaded magazine put into a 1911. Since the CA "drop test" went into effect many years ago the slide going forward on a loaded magazine isn't going to cause an unintended discharge. Yes, I know there are some older pistols in use from before the test was established. In over 50 years as an active dealer, collector, builder and shooter of 1911's I have never heard of a time a slide went forward on a gun out of the shooter's hand and it fired. Anything is possible, but we don't write rules to cover "anything".
  22. After a discussion with the SASS BOD the decision has been made that local and State WBAS matches may score with EITHER Stage Points or Total Time. Official Sanctioned matches at the Regional, Territorial, National or World Championship level with be scored by Stage Points.
  23. At the present time tritium sights are LEGAL on modern pistols. We may discuss them further next year but I don't really expect them to be outlawed since they are in use now.
