The others can sometimes be hard to spot, but the tungsten one is so heavy that it can push a pistol over weight. If the pistol is close to overweight a magnet will spot the tungsten rod vs. the steel one instantly. I carry a small magnet in my guncart.

Chance, it is going to depend on the targets you guys set. If Action Target ones jacketed is fine. If a few old SASS Cowboy targets with soft steel it might be a problem.

Movement with a cocked firearm ...
Happy Jack replied to Dead Head's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
This rule is an exact copy of the wording used in CAS. It is intended to allow the shooter to adjust position for stability but they must stay at the same spot. Not move within a designated shooting location. A SDQ was the correct call. -
UNBELIEVABLE !! Sad beyond words. First Tom and now Fred. Things couldn't get much sadder. I knew him from long ago when we competed against each other with 1911's. Mere words can't express my sadness and feelings for the family.

It is with great personal sadness that have to announce the passing of my friend and legendary 1911 pistolsmith. He passed away today from complications of cancer and heart failure. It was my honor to make him a Wild Bunch Ambassador. He will be sorely missed and can never be replaced. :'( He, along with Bill Wilson, Ken Hackathorn, and Wayne Novak were all mentors to me. The loss is very personal. I wish the best for his family at this difficult time.

Over travel Screw legal in Traditional Category?
Happy Jack replied to Ranger Rob's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
The requirement is for a solid trigger, not a lightweight/skeletonized one etc. We don't mentioned overtravel screws in the modern category either. So an overtravel screw in a solid trigger is legal for a traditional pistol. -
Clearing Long Guns on the Line
Happy Jack replied to Abe E.S. Corpus's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
The FIRST thing I want to remind everyone that ANY discussion about SASS/CAS/WBAS rules that takes place on Facebook or any other "social media" location is NOT sanctioned as an official response. There has been a lot of problems with this on the Cowboy side recently requiring an official statement from the SASS office. I don't want us to have the same problem. While discussing things on those sites is fine don not expect an official response there. Only opinions which don't mean anything at a Sanctioned match. As to the questions in the OP: I basically agree with Boggus. I am not in favor of clearing long guns on the line and doing so is a clear violation of WBAS rules. Local clubs can do what they feel necessary but this policy can lead to big problems. An example at the recent Territorial on St. George: The local club has done the same thing you are describing: A 10 round rifle stage, shooter shot 9 and discarded the rifle with action open. After TO checked pistol clear and it was holstered shooter cycled rifle and live round came out. TO only saw shooter open gun (didn't see shooter close action before opening it. TO called SDQ for live round in chamber. A long discussion ensued as shooter said they had opened gun, then closed it to cycle for TO to show clear. SDQ was eventually removed BUT after that everyone was reminded that the ULT table rule was in effect as it was a Sanctioned match. Bad habits cause problems. Please reconsider this practice. -
Blaze, Goatneck Clem wrote the rules so he is the expert on legal firearms. Garrison Joe is very active with it in NM. I am sure somer of the active shooters will chime in soon.

It seems to me that everyone has had their say on this topic. It is important to note that the WBAS Committee has NO say over how the scoring programs are written. Either Practiscore or the SASS program written by CD Tom. They decide whether Misses and "P's are shown on the report. So if that is the OP's issue we cannot help you. You will need to take that up with the program authors. I will leave this open for a short time if there is anything useful added. If not I may close this topic.

Hi Lanky, I do the testing at EOT with a labradar radar chronograph. Ammo is picked up at random from shooters at the loading table of on the way there. Not everyone is tested, just a random about 4 or 5 from each posse. 5 rounds of pistol and 5 rounds of rifle are used. I do the testing on Sunday afternoon if possible. If the shooter's ammo fails the shooter comes with their own guns and is re-tested. If they pass fine, if not a MDQ for SCORING ONLY. They still get to shoot just for no score. If a shooter's ammo is not picked but they still want to know they can come by when I am testing and we will shoot their ammo. if it FAILS that is still OK. They don't get the DQ because they weren't officially chosen. Lets newer shooters get a feel for their ammo if they don't have the ability to test it at home. We strongly recommend that ammo is around 160pf to give some leeway for temperature or the difference between chronographs at different matches.

I can assure you as the founder of Sanctioned WBAS for SASS, this will be the BEST money you have every spent on shooting instruction. Chance is the BEST !!!!!

45acp load recommendation for my wife
Happy Jack replied to Leadfoot Luke's topic in Reloading for Wild Bunch
230grain bullet and about 3.8 of WST (Winchester Super target). The absolute best 45ACP load available. The vast majority of experienced shooters use that load. Not temp sensitive and clean shooting. Not a sharp recoil like some other powders. Use the heavy bullet as the felt recoil with it is softer than a lighter one going faster. -
According to the decision made by the SASS Board of Directors and relayed to me the results of the "re-scoring to get overall" are NOT TO BE PUBLISHED. Only the 2 overall winners will be announced.
-
Hi Joe, According to the information I got from Misty after EOT last summer. For Overall Male all the men are scored together as one pool. For Overall Female all the females are scored together as one pool. So yes, there are two separate scoring pools for the overall gender winners.

A couple of nuisances are involved in the OP question. The rule concerning ammunition REQUIRED for reloads has been quoted by Flash. However as I read the OP it relates to ammunition that may be used because of dropping, ejecting, etc. and not picking up that round but using the one carried to the line as a replacement. I consider the OP question to fall under the new rule concerning staging ammunition in bullet point 2 on page 15. A couple of things to consider when using this rule in the VERY unusual circumstance in the OP: #1 The reason for the mag pouch is because the shooter doesn't have enough of the correct pouches or other listed items to carry the ammunition as listed in the normal rule. #2 the ammunition must be staged before use. #3. To stage it you must place it down, remove your hand from it, and then pick it up for use. The reason for this new guideline is because sometimes shooters don't have enough pouches, loops, etc. and they need to stage additional ammunition. In the past just carrying it in your hand, tucking it in your belt, etc. made it illegally carried to the line. There is no reason to penalize a shooter for bringing their extra ammo to the line as long as the method for carrying it is safe.
-
I agree with Boggus. You could bring it to the line that way for staging and use, but you could NOT load it directly from the magazine pouch.
-
We REMOVED the requirement that magazines be worn on the opposite side of the body from the pistol. Another one of the rules carried over from Cowboy that in unnecessary. Who cares which side of the body you wear your magazines???

New WB shooter, lots of questions
Happy Jack replied to Boomstick Bruce's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
I agree with Goatneck. The Cutts comps are NOT LEGAL. We have never spelled it out clearly in the rules but that has been the case since the beginning of sanctioned WBAS. It was generally believed that the last bullet point under Shotgun barrels page 12. Compensating ports are not allowed. Would make this clear enough. I will make a note for 2020 rule book as 2019 rule books are already posted. -
An official decision has been made and the Mauser model 48 is LEGAL for BAMM matches.
-
The 2019 rule books are already posted on this site and the SASS main site. Therefore no changes can be made to them. I can post a "CLARIFICATION" on this site but can't change the Handbooks until next year to show the Mauser 48 as LEGAL. I will get with Goatneck and come up with any other "gray area" firearms he can think of and post their status later this year. In the meantime I will post on the WBAS Rules forum that the Mauser 48 is LEGAL for BAMM.
-
We obviously have a disagreement here. Send a note to Goatneck Clem. He wrote the rule and will be the final decision maker on this issue.

The ownership of the Single Action Shooting Society has mandated that we do not come to the firing line with a live round in the chamber of a pistol. Those of us who are involved with writing the rules for the sport have to operate under those mandates. I and many others involved have been participating in other action pistol disciplines for many years. Different sports, different rules.
-
A "bobbed frame" is NOT listed as an allowable modification to a pistol in the traditional or modern category. So NO the pistol is not legal. This has been discussed several times over the years and it has never received support to be allowed.

Viscious, even though I have known Bill Wilson for over 50 years I disagree with him about the buffers. He is the ONLY serious 1911 builder that I know who uses shock buffers, They are usually a problem just waiting to happen. I think your recoil spring is a bit light but if it works for you, OK. However I would seriously recommend removing the worthless shock buffer.
