  1. Hats off to the Texican Rangers for a successful Texas State Wild Bunch Match! Great 3 day match with plenty of side matches on Friday including BAMM,GAMM, Doughboy, and signature side match stage called blazing saddles. They had a fastest 1911 and a team match! A 10 stage main match with unique and original stages. They fed us well and had a nice prize table to boot including giving away primers! Special thanks to Aceup sleeve, Burley Bill and that amazing crew that put so much hard work into it all.
  2. Ok ! That was the star! I was thinking on a different line. ;D Just think when the movie was made the prop house was probably fresh out of the French made Benet-Mercie machine guns......and the rest is movie history
  3. Ok, we are jumping a lot of stumps. First I’m not the final word on rules I am nothing to do with the rule committee. I’m the administrator of the wire so what I say is my opinion and we all know what’s said about that. A correct replica of a model 12 would be legal I would think. Just sliding a bayonet heat shroud on your model 12 wouldn’t as there are several other differences this is as per previous statements from Happy Jack. A Chinese built factory 97 trenchgun is legal and they are good guns. If you have problem with modern 1911’s that’s easy just shoot traditional and turn your head when those offending modern pistols show up at the loading table. ;D it’s tue most 73’s and 92’s and 66’s are repops. As far as expensive and rare shotguns there are folks in some circles shooting hammered h and r shotguns wishing they could afford a hammerless model while in that other circle that guy is wishing for a deluxe engraved H&H instead of the field grade he has now. Moral? It’s all relative . What I don’t know is what is a 1917 WC never heard of one.
  4. Doc, a real model 12 trenchgun is full legal
  5. Yee Hawww!! C.N. double wins it all! Shooting traditional! Congratulations sir, well done! Traditional shooters always have a free hand to roll a cigarette or point at the next target.🤠 Traditional shooters never have to say hold my beverage and watch this. They just swap hands. 🤠
  6. Any and all ! Probably be lots of competitors shooting modern and traditional 1911’s. We just wanted to open this match up to more old war guns . Where else can you shoot your original artillery Luger in competition? 🤠
  7. Doc, we would like to invite y’all up to Bammbalooza. It’s going to be a blast! We are all looking forward to the Texas state match,it will be here before you know it.
  8. GJ, you need to come out to this! Garands will be running lead we don’t have a velocity limit but feel that the garand operates with lead best at around 18-2000 fps. They run great with the Purcella g.c. Bullet. Very easy forgiving rifle. Now we have found that the 30 carbine with lead or jacketed has to run a lot closer to factory velocity to operate reliably.
  9. Glad to hear your getting the ducks in a row! WST great powder 4.0 grains with a 230 lead and you are ready for action!
  10. As a side note those difficult questions have been changed to we think more user friendly setof questions.
  11. I saw that today. They still have openings for cowboy.......... You know it makes me wonder...... if they sold out at 125 that quick I wonder how many more shooters had an interest? Could they of had 150? 200?
  12. Back 40, sounds like it was a great match! Congratulations to you ,shell stuffer and EJ for stepping up and stepping out! As a side note I really like the idea of brass shaggers. That’s high class!
  13. C.N. Double, my understanding of the long range rifle is the BAMM rifle used at extended ranges we call sniper as opposed to combat being in closer. Working on finding out some more details. Blazing saddles. YEE HAW! You are astride your faithful stead about 3’ above ground he is a 55 gallon drum mounted on casters and saddled. ( I guess it makes him a barrel racer ;D (sorry, couldn’t resist) With pistol cal lever rifle in hand you’ll engage some targets at about 20-25 yards hand off the rifle and trip a lever, away you go for guts and glory! Drawing your 45 and charging 2 targets with 7 shots on the left RELOAD 2 more on the right with 7 shots. Exciting? DANG STRAIGHT!
  14. TM, we started using the auto reset targets mainly for shotgun because they are easy to move. Our old shotgun targets were very unfriendly to move. We have some clay bird launchers also that we use. For something a little different throw charcoal briquettes . You can have great Doughboy and teddy r stages at 25-30 yards as you say just by shrinking targets and spreading them out. Plate racks, dueling trees etc. it sounds easy to hit a 6” target with a BAMM rifle at 30 yards but on the clock at speed it changes the dynamics.
  15. As EJ says TR and DB are very well recieved where offered at monthlies . Very easy to add and run. TM, I like the direction y’all are headed. J.Frank at Texas Doughboys we shoot rifle targets at 25 yards or greater could be out to fifty. As match directors or competitors we just have to push the targets back to have a reason for the rifle. When we used to shoot the rifle at 10-15 yards it made no sense to me with a good pistol already in my hand. However when the rifle is pushed out then there is a good reason for it. We will also shoot 2 of the 3 guns on about 1/2 the stages or more. Our competitors really like the pistol to have 28 or more. Our rifle varies but a round count of 7 would be average. Shotgun! Shotgun got boring and we just used it sparingly. We changed that and now shotgunning is fun and looked forward to. We spread out the targets for random distance and depth. Sometimes moving forward to engage or a zig zag etc. sometimes we have a shotgun only stage that’s 15 to 20 rounds on that many targets with lots of movement. We never shoot dump targets. We do not stand and deliver. A 25 yard dueling tree is a fun and challenging target for both levers and dB
  16. Abe, I know HooDoo Brown loads for both your rifles. His loads are mild and effective. You could contact him at 432-661-3745 after you shoot these rifles with reduced loads to quote the immortal Texas musician Bob Wills “ you’ll be a ding dong daddy, baby”🤠
  17. B.E. Sounds like it’s working right. Dry fire it hold the trigger down and work the action it should slam fire without hesitation. The way to make ready a model 12 at the loading table is action open make sure it’s empty. Hold the trigger down close the action. Roll the gun over and load it by pushing the shell in with your thumb on about half or less of the case head. If you try to seat the shells with the thumb fully over the shell like on an 870 it will spit the shells out. Load the prescribed number of shells and the shotgun is ready. The hammer is down on an empty chamber it does not have to have the slide pushed forward or use the bolt release behind the trigger.
  18. Couldn’t tell ya. You could go over to the sass cowboy forum and ask.
  19. Good question. Cool holsters! Strictly safety issues. Sweeping, 180 etc. you can wear it with a dummy pistol, you just can’t use it in competition.
