  1. You may know that my wife Copper queen is one of the head judges at EOT and also at the Conventions when they were held. She also judges Wild Bunch at EOT. There is usually a dedicated military judge for WBAS contests as well as the other judges for non-military costumes. Costuming is usually period US military but also has been won by period Mexican costuming, and related things such as a nurses costume of the period. Remember when putting your non-military costume together that Wild Bunch is EDWARDIAN period more than Victorian which is the period covered be CAS. However a good Victorian period costume could easily win. I am addressing the larger contests such as EOT and WR when I speak of the judging panels. At smaller matches such as State judging is usually less formal. We STRONGLY encourage WBAS competitors to wear nice costuming.
  2. I have no problem with a side match at a WBAS match using a Tommy Gun, but to have shooters who have little experience or maybe NEVER handled a full auto during a main activity such as a stage or a shoot off I am OPPOSED to. If it could be incorporated as the starting gun I think it would be cool but I do NOT want anyone handling one for the first time during a main activity. There is another SASS spinoff called ZOOT Shooting that uses a full auto Thompson. I think it was started in the Denver, CO area.
  3. The Henry Big boy in a legal caliber WAS MADE LEGAL in June 01, 2016. The new Handbooks that will issue in Jan. 1, 2017 will reflect that change. The reason was that a FEW CAS shooters already had one and wanted to shoot WBAS but didn't want to buy another rifle and also it has been legal in CAS for a long time and the time for holding grudges against Henry Repeating Arms is past. I agree that it is NOT a good choice but if you have one and want to shoot WBAS you can use it.
  4. KR YES. In the OP there was a 20 round shooting string. If it were two 10 round shooting strings (10 pistol, 10 rifle) there wouldn't be a "P". Just one miss for firing 9 rounds in the first 10 round string.
  5. AGREE Miss for the round not fired and a "P". :(
  6. I agree with August West. Not enough information to make a definitive call. You had to be there to know what happened and sometimes the call made by the CRO/TO is correct and sometimes it isn't in this type of case. The shooter can always appeal. Remember : The benefit of the doubt goes to the shooter !!!! As for the "engaged" definition, it has been in the SASS handbooks for many years, and changing it doesn't seem to have much support. I am not really pleased with the current definition but can live with it.
  7. I agree with Goatneck. On #1 see the definition of "engaged" in the glossary.
  8. NO. WBAS Shooters Handbook page 14.
  9. I will admit that in the beginning I was not a big fan of BAMM. 5 rounds on 3 targets (Nevada sweep) then reload and do it again for time was just another "speed side match". As matches have grown into something else, longer ranges, more interesting target sequences I think it is a good thing for WBAS. It also separates us more from CAS. I do think the rules as written are fine. I had some misgivings about them also in the beginning but now I think keeping it to true "battle rifles as issued" is closer to the original concept of WBAS. Lone Dog, If it were my LOCAL match and someone showed up with a sporter stocked rifle I would let them shoot for no score. (under the MDQ for scoring with an illegal or illegally modified firearm rule) Other MD's may feel differently.
  10. Kr, Welcome to the forum and enjoy shooting the 1911 any way you wish. Some have tried to actually shoot matches with BP substitutes. They have had fun but it wasn't successful. The high round count obviously causes problems soon in the match. I feel most of the responses to your post were meant more as a warning that you would have problems than a personal attack. We don't allow that over here. The WBAS wire is NOT like the SASS wire. Mostly it is used to discuss ammo, firearm issues, etc. So the tone you got is in keeping with that history.
  11. Boggus, I just got a new '12 from Goatneck. It seems really nice but doesn't have a flag. If you don't mind hold on to that carrier and if I develop some problems I may need it. Since Goatneck built the gun though I imagine it will be fine. Sending you an email.
  12. Wayne Novak has made real gold front sights for years. (I've had one for about 10 years) Also has nice rear sights.
  13. I just got home. Apparently there were some problems with the scoring due to the WRONG number of required targets on some of the stages. It does not appear that the corrections will change any of the winners. Just cleaning up some issues with overall stage winners. Corrected results should be posted soon. I don't know the absolute reason for the mistakes but I suspect that they were due to the incorrect round count listed in the shooters handbook for some of the stages. Changes will be MINOR.
  14. The CED M2 is an excellent unit. I have 2 of them. Also the new PACT unit is fine. i have 1 of them and an older PACT. Uness you want to spend a LOT of money on a radar unit I would stay with CED and PACT.
  15. As far s I am concerned it is LEGAL on a modern pistol. I wrote most of the rule book. Is is not a "wrap around grip." Just an add on part that covers only the front strap.
  16. Are you talking about in the pistol or the rifle?? I don't use them but use 200 RP in rifle and 230 H&G TC's in pistol.
  17. Myself and most who have shot the 1911 competitively for many uses drop the slide on a magazine of ammo using the slide stop. I do NOT recommend an extended slide stop. It usually causes more problems than it solves.
  18. NO, but you might put a request on the Wild West Arts forum on the regular wire. A number of leather workers follow it and might make you one.
  19. If the hammer was not fully down or on the safety notch it is a SDQ.
  20. First of all in a Sanctioned Wild Bunch Match such a a State of above match you CANNOT re-engage a knockdown that does not fall. You will not be re-engaging ANY KD target at WR. As for what to do IF for some reason you complete engaging all required targets and you still have live rounds in the pistol you must completely clear it of all LIVE rounds and lock the slide open before staging it safely on a prop. You CANNOT fire extra rounds down range. That is a "P".
  21. Both JT Wild and Silvertip have shot Wild Bunch at WR clean once each. Viper this year was the first shooter to shoot Wild Bunch at EOT clean.
  22. There is no doubt that the Redding dies are the best. They are all I use for rifle rounds from 218 Bee all the way to 50BMG. (I do have some Wilson dies for benchrest.) As for a case lube in my opinion Spray on Hornady One Shot is one of the WORST case lubes available. I only use it on 45 Colt and 454 Casull pistol brass. On difficult cases I only Use Imperial Sizing Wax.
  23. Colt Gold Cup pistols are legal in the Modern category. They are quite popular.
  24. Los Angeles Silhouette Club. There are some VERY knowledgable lead bullet casters who post information on their website.
  25. I know of only ONE person shooting Wild Bunch that uses a 185 grain bullet. The reason?? Hundreds of already loaded rounds left over from their USPSA days. With that light bullet and the high velocity required to meet USPSA PF they are not very happy with their performance in Wild Bunch. 230 is by far the most popular weight followed by 200. The "felt recoil" nicer with the heavy bullet. I can't help with load information since I have only used a 230 grain bullet and WST in 45ACP for MANY years.
