Maybe this will help, I wrote: "I understand wrap around grips, thumb rests, target style (finger grooves etc) and mag release cut. I thought I understood the statement, "but no material may extend beyond the original profile of the grip." Then this year a "clarification" was added, "Grips that are thinner at one end or the other but have a straight taper are allowed." What is being clarified? What does material extended beyond the grip profile have to do with a mag release cut? What are we looking for?" Happy Jack replied: "The statement about straight taper was added as there are now some grips being offered with a "palm swell" which was determined to not be allowed." JFN

I asked this on the ambassador side and the answer is not legal. Well Trooper, as you know we lost our range. So we will have to use another range. At this point another club has offered us their range and annual match date. We will know by the end of April. If we go with them the date will be the 3rd weekend in August. JFN

I appreciate those who have disagreed, you have made me think. It has taken several days to remember Goatneck's argument and I realized it was based on the stage point scoring system. The idea was that a match is not just one match but is a series of smaller matches. Because of stage points, the scores could be sorted so that shooters competed head to head with shooters of the same category. So modern shooters were compared to modern, traditional to traditional, men against men, ladies against ladies and so on. Total time has made that whole system moot. Everyone is ranked fastest to slowest. The other reason was we wanted to give buckles to all the winners. We hoped nice prizes would attract out-of-state shooters. Last year we gave 2 buckles to the overall winners, 4 to the modern/traditional categories and 2 to the lady categories (not enough to have lady seniors). By moving the overall winners up we brought two more shooters to the prize table and 8 shooters got 8 buckles. I will say that over the years there have been shooters who won a buckle that liked the system. But, I hear those of you that don't like the system. If we get to hold a state match this year, we will give this a serious discussion. Maybe we need to give plaques to the category winners and buckles to the two overall winners. That would cut the buckle bill down to two and eliminate duplicate awards. Thanks for the food for thought. JFN

If that's how Texas does it then I truly feel bad for Texas. Chance, I respect your differing opinion, just don't disparage Texas. It's how we do it in New Mexico because I saw it at a Texas state match. After Goatneck explained the reasoning it made sense. JFN

Maybe the RO committee can make that happen. I would like to see a change in the awards. I think the two overall winners should be moved out of their category and the second place winners in those categories moved up to first place. Once you win overall who cares which category you won. Overall is the primo award, and moving the 2nd place winner to 1st place makes a lot of sense. Texas has been doing this for years and we started it several years ago. Haven't heard a shooter complain yet. JFN

Let's see, 10 stages. I'd plan for 350 pistol, 100 rifle and at least 60 shotgun. Then all the side matches and at least enough ammo to reshoot a stage if you have to (35 pistol, 10 rifle and 6 shotgun. This is not hard to figure out and the real key is leaving with enough ammo to fight off the bandits on your way home. JFN

I had one and it was a pain so I traded it off. Pretty sure I traded out the carriers trying to get it to work. Goatneck had one that ran. I asked him what he did to it, he said nothing, it just worked. He also said most don't run. I think nearly every WB shooter has gotten a smokin' deal on a M12 only to wind up with an education on duck guns. I might have a short carrier with a flag. I'll check tomorrow. Let me know. JFN

Okay, I'll bite. I'd like to know what is on the muzzle? Is that an external adjustable choke like a poly-choke? I can't tell from the photograph. It has a sling swivel and looks like it is longer than the end of the barrel. JFN

Dittos to all the previous replies. This whole discussion arose from a club miss-reading the rules on re-staging a long gun and conflating two different scenarios. There is a simple solution. I can remember only a half a dozen times that I've shot a stage with a split rifle or shotgun sequence but we shoot split pistol sequences all the time. The pistol is staged for reuse just like it is discarded at the end of a sequence, empty of all ammo. The rules for both shotgun and rifle read: • Safe to leave the shooters hands. – NO LIVE round in the chamber, action cycled, and muzzle safely downrange. – Hammer fully down on an empty chamber or expended round, action closed (restaged for further use) Do away with the last sentence and get rid of split long gun sequences. I see no value in split long gun sequences unless you are picking it up empty and loading on the clock. JFN
