  1. They have found out that there 3 other matches that weekend. So the match will be moved to a later date. I'll update when I have new information. Can't find a edit button. JFN
  2. Chisum Cowboys are having a Wild Bunch match October 20th-23rd. JFN
  3. I recently acquired a really nice Remington Model 14 in 35 Rem. And it is fun to shoot! But it only holds five rounds. I have been taking a Win 94 to the matches because it holds seven rounds. Are most of the TR stages moving toward five rounds because of the number of legal rifles like the Savage 99, Win 1895 and mine only hold 5 in the magazine? JFN
  4. I think all my competition needs to use them.😊 JFN
  5. Ruger is a great place to start. I bought one and took it to a state match after running 50 rounds through it, not a hiccup. It later went to my son after 20,000 rounds. The Ruger mags worked well too. I passed it on after I had enough experience shooting WB to know what I wanted in a WB pistol. Iwent with a Colt Wiley Clapp tuned by Boggus Deal. That $600 used one would have went out the door in my hands. JFN
  6. I've had several '97s. I didn't like how they feel even after I had them worked on, too many moving parts. And they do break. I've broken firing pins in the M12. If you're lucky the tip breaks off so that it stays in the bolt and the gun still fires. Also seen folks break a firing pin at a major match, wrecks your score. Boggus Deal has solved that so get a new firing pin from him. When buying a M12 lookup the serial number and find out when it was made. I would buy only those made in the 1950's, or at least post WWII. They will be your best quality. There are a lot of them out there. And what ever you do, do not buy a duck gun! These M12s have a longer chamber and some different internals. Only about 1 out of 10 work well enough to use in our game. You will break the bank trying to get it to work. JFN
  7. A new shooter fell in love with his new Tisas 1911. He had me make him some ammo. At a match it wouldn't cycle so I got blamed for faulty reloading. I handed him my Colt, not a hiccup. He pulled out his backup (A nicer pistol), not a hiccup. A local smith took it and it wouldn't run with the smith's ammo. Bottom line is the chamber was a tad short and several 1000s undersize. JFN
  8. The rules committee has an impossible task of writing rules so that no one can misinterpret them. I still believe that the "Basketball Traveling Rule" means that with a long-gun I can take a step with each shot just like dribbling the basketball. But, sigh . . . I get DQ'ed. JFN
  9. Check your magazines, are they heavy? What kind of grips? Wooden grips are the lightest and G10 are the heaviest. I've also seen people hollow out the grip panels. Replace the steel mainspring housing with a plastic one. Do check the scale. That sounds heavy for a mil-spec pistol. JFN
  10. The sight requires a Novak cut on the slide which makes the pistol illegal too. JFN
  11. Dusty, are there only two motels in Bowie? The Park's Inn looks real good because I can back up to the room door to unload. Any thoughts? JFN
  12. Tully, I haven't ruled those options out. Rooms have always been an issue for Pheonix and then as a WB only shooter I've always had the feeling we were sucking the hind tit. Then there is the Southwest Territorial two weeks later in Bowie, Texas. Easier drive and cheaper motels, mmm. JFN
  13. I encourage all my competitors to add the .25" bumper pad to their mags. It does decrease the chance of a pinch and helps in seating the mag with the closed slide on a tac reload. It also allows the shooter to drive the mag too deep when loading from slide lock. This locks up the pistol and you are done for that stage (usually happens at a major match). Or, you eventually break the welds on the base plate and on a reload the base plate comes off, the spring, follower and rounds squirt on the ground. Again, the mag tube is wedged in the pistol shutting you down for that stage (usually at a major match). Tripp will weld all the way around the baseplate, if you request it. Or, don't add the leather base pad unless you really need it. JFN
  14. I know a number of shooters that use Ed Brown mags that they got through the exchange program. They were ok for me but I sold mine. I've also had Tripp mags and had trouble. Failure to feed on the 3rd round. But they are by far the preferred mag in WB. I use ACT mags designed by John Nowlin, I buy them on eBay. My big issue is I want my mags to have parallel lips. Stops the top round from flipping out when you slam the mag home on a locked back slide or pealing it off as you pull the mag from the mag pouch. Tripp, ACT and a few others have parallel lips. You won't go wrong with Tripp Magazines. JFN
  15. 10 stages at 35 pistol, 10 rifle and 6 shotgun. That's 350 pistol, 100 rifle and 60 shotgun, give or take a few. JFN
  16. Competition is a great pistol. Get a Wilson combat flat recoil spring and you can use the .25" guide rod that comes in the dual recoil spring set up. Some have a plastic mainspring housing that I'd replace watching the pistol weight. JFN
  17. All on Facebook on The Original Oklahoma Rough Riders page. JFN Overall Winners by Time.pdf Category Winners by Time.pdf
  18. If the 8th round had been in any of the first three mags it wouldn't have gone to slide lock after firing 7 rounds. Shooter would have inserted a fresh mag and racked the slide and the 8th round would have been ejected. If he was doing tac reloads after 6 rounds then it would have been left in the mag and been dropped with the mag. Time to get 7 round mags. JFN
  19. They are surprisingly pricey. So far the best bet are the new ones offered by Numrich. I'll then have to come up with some of the hardware.
  20. Where is the edit option? I'd like to fix the typo. It is present in this reply but not on the original post.
  21. My father-in-law sent this home with me last weekend. It is a Mauser K98, mixed numbers. The receiver is stamped byf 44 with the Nazi eagle. So it is late production WWll. The stock was sporterized while the metal is unmolested and in excellent condition. Does anyone know where I can find an original stock? Would be fun to shoot it in BAMM. What bullet/load is preferred for BAMM? JFN
