MO Championship - Pershing's Pursuit - Sept 17-19
Artemus replied to Artemus's topic in Wild Bunch Matches
We are just 7 weeks out, so make sure you are getting those applications in the mail. We are putting up some fresh steel, painting and rearranging targets this weekend to get ready! -
EOT 2022 WILD BUNCH NUMBERS INCREASED
Artemus replied to Legendary Lawman's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Awesome to hear about this level of turn out! This side match schedule is different than what is on the website. Is this a change to accommodate the number of shooters? I am hoping to be able to shoot the Cowboy long range and Plainsman events, so I am very curious as to how this all times out. Really if Long Range and Sgt York is a typo and it is Tuesday afternoon I am set. This would give plenty of time to shooters to run both WB sidematches and Cowboy sidematches. Extremely excited either way. -
I was thinking it was 150, but I've been won't before. Cowboy is supposed to be nearly at capacity. I am sure they have a good reason for that size of the cap, but you gotta wonder if they will try and bump up the WB cap. We can use all the enthusiastic and active shooters we can get

Just as a heads up, Kay Brand for EoT with the Arizona territorial rough riders is saying that the Wild Bunch match is currently taking applications for the wait list only. I see this as an exciting thing. I do not like the idea of people being excluded, just the level of interest!

We are excited to announce that we will have an engraved '97 for the top clean shooter at the Missouri State Wild Bunch, just to make things a little more interesting! -
I know the awards banquet is tonight, Friday, but since I was only able to shoot Wild Bunch I won't be at the WB/side match banquet. Do we know when they will post scores?

Artemus replied to Artemus's topic in Wild Bunch Matches
That is me, Artemus Von Schutze, we were having some fun that day. Your always welcome to join us. We shoot Wild Bunch every first Saturday of the month, or the easier option would be to join us at our state match. -
MO Championship - Pershing's Pursuit - Sept 17-19
Artemus replied to Artemus's topic in Wild Bunch Matches
That's actually my brother shooting and myself running the timer. I believe Elwood taught that to us, but we have been happy to share it with others. Just showed it to a couple of shooters at EoT. Looking forward to shootin' with you. -
Come join us for the best Wild Bunch in the Missouri territory! Join Missouri's own General "BlackJack" Pershing as we fight through 10 main match stages. Report in on Friday, and join us for a three stage Doughboy & Teddy Roosevelt sidematch along with other favorites such as BAMM and speed events. We will update match information on our website https://bearcreekvolunteers.com/StateWB.html Email us at bearcreekvol@gmail.com or the match director: Handlebar Scratch handlebar@thegunengraver.com or 417-865-5953 Feel free to ask questions here as well. 2021_BCV_MO_State_Wild_Bunch_Application.pdf

It was a great time, and I'll be looking forward to EoT 2022 by the weekend. Really excited to see if we run with the expanded TR/DB match. I don't think I saw unhappy shooter in the bunch. Thanks to Serenity, Legendary Lawman, Shell stuffer, Back 40, Elwood and everyone else who made it happen. I think it was a weekend that will only help add more appeal to WBAS.

Shooting Traditional, I just changed mine out to an arched with a short trigger. I love it. My brother got a CMP 1911 and this is the setup they came with, I did not know I wanted this setup until I tried it. If you're shooting Traditional, this is how the Army trained and issued pistols.

Yeah, I have to agree it is a bummer that we don't get to be around and congratulate our fellow wild people. When we were on the old schedule in NM I was going to hang around the extra day for the banquet, I can't justify a week. This sounds like a plan.

Congratulations and great to hear! -
There is a thread in the main forum that has this info called "Round Count for EOT Wild Bunch" https://www.sassnet.com/wildbunch/forum/index.php?topic=2948.0

Looks like they are no longer doing lunch in the middle of the stages, according the schedule online. Very glad to hear this.

What model 1911 do you like/use for WB?
Artemus replied to Doc Holloman's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Doc you might look at different grips, such as ones with a scoop out to get to the mag release. VZ grips has some good options. Shooting traditional and hands on the small side, I changed to a thinner profile grip with a scoop out for the mag release. Huge difference. I have not tried an extend mag release of course, but I will say a light mag release spring made a lot of difference. -

Dusty, that is a great story. Who woulda thought of that! The secret to the '97 is be rough with her, or at least very intentional. Lots of lube helps too. -
What model 1911 do you like/use for WB?
Artemus replied to Doc Holloman's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
I would say Ruger SR1911 is as close to a standard as Modern has, they probably make up close to a third in my experience. I shot one until I changed to Traditional. I think Shell Stuffer has one, and he seems to do just fine with it. Now that I shoot Traditional I have a High Standard I use. I was looking at a Springfield for a back up, but I think the CMP is about to send me a Colt I will probably be using. -
I prefer Kirkpatrick's slide since it only has 4 shells and 2 cartridge loops. You will probably never need more, and other's have too many loops that take up too much belt room for my taste.
-
Elwood James can jump in and correct me if need be, but I believe the current plan is three stages. I would plan on 4 mag, 10 rifle, and 6 shotgun per stage.
-
I use Trailboss for my 45 Colt loads, but I was using Bullseye for my ACP. I recently started using Shooter's World Clean Shot for my ACP, partly because Scarlett Darlin' talked me into and partly because you can actually get it and it's cheaper. It's been working out so far, little more smoke than bullseye, but less than clays from what I have seen with other shooters.

New official Wild Bunch side matches
Artemus replied to DUSTY BODDAMS's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
I would say a FPS cap might be a solid plan. After shooting Teddy Roosevelt with an '86 in 45-70 @ 1350 FPS, I would tell you it is plenty of power. No damage or bad things, but we saw some heavy 10" squares go just about straight back at about 30 yards. It was awesome to see and shoot though. 1400 FPS would keep it inline with other velocity maximums and would be easy enough.
