Badge Pusher
I carry Metalform 7 round on duty and use them for WB. Also have a couple of Colt mags, a Kimber and a couple of McCormick. The McCormick weren't reliable enough for duty use. Badge Pusher
KingSnake
I'm using McCormick Shooting Stars. Tried Meg-Gars and did not like them - 1 of 3 wouldn't drop and the other 2 were marginal. Have a new Kimber mag that came with my new Kimber Custom II and I like it so far. Might buy some more of them. KingSnake
GrubstakeCharlie
When I purchased my Springfield Mil-spec 1911 back last year it came with a offer to purchase up to 10 mags at $7/ea. Springfield 1911, Springfield mags, seem to work well together.
Deputy Ray
My friend turned me onto Mags from a poular web site. I just ordered 20 more before the new CA law takes affect in Feb where magazine sales will have to be face to face I paid $5.68 per mag. For Wild Bunch they are great if one gets stepped on it does not hurt so bad. Hey they are, Cheaper than Dirt!!!!! DR
Nawlins Kid
When I purchase my Springfield Mil-Spec I order the extra mags. A month later I called to see if I could order more. After talking to a fellow for a couple of mins asking some question and telling him how I liked the 1911, he told me he would give the discount again if I would tell anyone. So you did not here it from me that if you buy a new gun there is a chance you may be able to buy extra discounted mags ;D Nawlins Kid
Cpt Dan Blodgett
I am not sure I want go with the ones that are cheaper than the dirt we stand on as they have mixed reviews and do not engage the slide stop on some pistols. Has anyone used the sportsmans guide mil-spec magazines? Are they really GI or even a truly mil-spec import. I got parkerized M-14 mags made in taiwan back in the assault weapon ban days that functioned flawlessly in many a high power match.
Wild Bodie Tom
Kinda like motorcycle racing days. Remember the ad that stated so to speak, if you have a ten dollar head, then buy a ten dollar helmet........... Pretty much applies to magazines also........... They may work, but then again, they may not.............. Doesn't mean all the more expensive ones are any better either, just to let ya all know. The bottom line is, if in doubt, buy "ONE OR TWO" TEST them before jumping in and buying a bunch until you know. Magazines and ammo usually will be found to be the culprit with a high percentage of issues with a 1911. Take it for what you will............. Thanks Tom
Pecos Clyde
Gosh darn it Wild Bodie Tom!!! :D If them guys buyin the "less expensive" magazines shoot in my class (modern) I was hoping they would buy them really "inexpensive $4.98 magazines....you know the ones that are sold as Colt factory magazines because they say Colt on the floorplate...... But NOOOOOOO, here you come with your sage advice and now I have absolutely no competitive advantage...none....zip....zero....nada. Thanks pard. Cpt Dan Blodgett
I have had pretty good luck with 'New' GI mags or even old GI mags if the feed lips were not sprung or worn out. Thats why I was wondering if the mags really were 'GI' I agree that most cheap import crap is just that. Will probably wait for another gun show in town a pick up some more in sealed wrappers with the NSN. Only need a couple more so even kimbers retail wont break the bank, just want to stay GI if possible.
Two Dot
Cheaping out on mags is the biggest mistake you can make. I do not care how good your gun is, it will not run on junk mags. As Bodie said which ones will work best may vary with your gun. But go with quality mags or be prepared to have many malfunstions to clear. Pecos Clyde
Hello, I am very interested in finding out more about the Cowboy Action Shoots. How does one get started without a lot of expense for equipment etc? GR The website you probably want is: http://www.sassnet.com/ SASS is the parent organization of Wild Bunch Action Shooting, Cowboy Action Shooting, and Mounted Shooting. Click on that link and take a look. Lots of information there ref. cowboy shooting. Of course you are always welcome here. As to getting started without alot of expense, if you need to buy the firearms necessary to play the game there really isn't a cheap way to do it. You need 2 single action revolvers, a lever action rifle chambered in a pistol caliber, and a double barrel, lever action or pump action winchester model 1897. Then of course you need holsters a gun belt and some method to carry shotgun shells. If you can afford the equipment you will find that it is FUN, and the people involved are FREINDLY. good luck, you are always welcome here! Tom Horn
I bought mags from Joe's 1911 Mag Mania on the Internet. I use a 1911 Remington R1 and the mags i purchased from Joe's are shown as 1911 7 round Hybrid Stainless Steel Mags. His website shows 5 Mags @ $55.00. I have used them and they are good mags they list at $12.00 each, but if you buy 5 you get a $5.00 less break. He ships them fast USP. Here is a link to his website for those interested: http://www.joes1911magmania.com/1911-7-round-hybrid-stainless-maga19117.html ]]"Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it."[/[/color]quote][/i]
Griff
I said "other" because you din't have a spot for "UNKNOWN"! ;D I bought my mags over 20 years ago... and can't remember the brand name. They weren't cheap, stainless and have worked great ever since. Bought 2, then went back for 8 more... They've worked in 3 1911s, hoping they'll work in the "new-to-me" I'm buying for WB! DUSTY BODDAMS
i had to do like griff and say other but actually i have a few colt, bunch of mil spec and some unmarked stainless. had good luck with all. i run these mags hard and if i have a malfunction than that mag is retired. i like the mil spec best not the cheap knockoff's but the mags that sell at the gun shows for around 9-10 bucks. main thing is to really try them not just baby around fill them full , run them dry! you can find out pretty quick if ones going to be a problem.-dusty
Dalton Masterson
I use the surplus GI mags myself. I have had to retune a few of them to lock the slide back when empty, but otherwise they have worked like a dream in mine. Of course, mine is an old GI 1911 too. Lonesome Chuck
No longer shooting W/B, but when I did I used GI mags and had no problem. As a side note, I use only Wilson Combat in my carry gun and my duty gun. Lonesome chuck
Sgt. John Campbell
After another spectacular magazine blowout at last weeks match, I've decided to retire my military surplus magazines. That made two matches in a row that I've had magazine failures from the bottom welds giving out. I received three new Chip McCormick Shooting Star magazines I ordered from MidwayUSA in the mail yesterday (still need to pick up several more). Pecos Clyde
I witnessed the "spectacular magazine failure" this weekend in the WBAS warm up match. It really catches your eye to see all the stuff flying out of the bottom of the pistol!!! The shooter had told me on the stage before that they had gotten a real good deal on the "lower priced" mags. Honestly, if someone is having magazine related malfunctions in their 1911, buying higher quality magazines really does help alleviate the problem.
