Call Boggus Deal, I think he has a traditional hammer that is high and legal. JFN
-
They were designed to touch so a cavalry shooter could lower the hammer on a live round one-handed. JMB designed it to be carried hammer down on a live round like any other horse pistol. As stated above an A-1 will have a longer tail on the grip safety and alleviate most of the bite, but not all. JFN

Red Dirt SW Territorial

They are on the Oklahoma Territorial Marshalls page on FB. JFN -
Wow, the Red Dirt WB Territorial was a great match and my compliments to Hondo Tweed and the Rough Rider crew! I sure liked having a side match day on Thursday. They made a day of it and fed us lunch and supper to boot. Everyone got to play to their hearts content. What a great way to warm up for the main match! Much better than having a warmup match. They had lots of small pistol targets set at hit-able distances. A lot of fun to shoot. They also set the rifle targets at rifle distances. This has been one of my soap-box issues, in WB we set the rifle targets at pistol distances and everyone wants to shoot them with their pistol (a carry over from cowboy?). Not at this match, the rifle targets were set out there and tested your rifle skills. A great use of the rifle in stage writing. Good food, good friends and a great match. I'm looking forward to the Nationals next year. JFN

Spent a lot of time on the Krag collectors site and looked at many Krag "carbines." Bottom line is there are a lot of altered rifles out there, both carbines and cadet rifles. Many times the collectors can't tell by looking at a Krag if it has been altered, they have to research the factory records. If you have to look up the serial number to see if it was originally was a rifle, I'd say DB is correct, it's a faithful reproduction. We are shooters here not collectors. We do this for fun. JFN

When I shot service rife we used them sitting and prone. We couldn't use them standing but they had to be on the rifle. JFN

Are there any rules for using slings in BAMM? I see them on the rifles but don't see anyone using them. JFN

The buckles for 2021, Wild Bunch vs. Aliens match are in. Starting to get exciting! And remember out-of-state shooters CAN win buckles. The SASS conchos go to the state champions and buckles go to whoever wins the category. So get your application in and we will see you in Roswell. JFN -

EOT 2022 WILD BUNCH NUMBERS INCREASED
J. Frank Norfleet replied to Legendary Lawman's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Since there are 10 posse's and 10 changes, make each posse responsible for changing the stage they end on. That would mean that each posse would need the instructions to make the changes. JFN -
Cracked a slide last year. Found a Colt overproduction slide on eBay and since the barrel was shot out I bought a like new Colt NM barrel on eBay too. Sent everything to Boggus and for the last year it's been my practice pistol. Runs like top! Do what HJ said. JFN

Sorry to hear that! Roswell is not far from Edgewood. Is there anything we can do to help? JFN -
Los Pistoleros will again host the New Mexico State Wild Bunch Match. This year the match will be held in Roswell, NM at the High Lonsome range. Dates are August 27-29. Lots of good shooting and good food at a great shooting range.

Sutter Lawman, his vision and Gold Country Wild Bunch.
J. Frank Norfleet replied to Tully Mars's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Good ideas Tully. I have long been frustrated that we shoot the rifle at pistol distances, a carry over from cowboy. If we are going to do that, just shoot them with the pistol. I would sure like to see the rifle targets moved way back. My other frustration is the shotgun. I can't tell you how many matches I'v been to where for 10 or 12 stages the instructions were, "There are 6 shotgun targets, knock 'em down." Boring. Let me shoot them with my pistol. JFN -
Seeking information on a Colt serial number...GV prefix.
J. Frank Norfleet replied to trooper's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Looks like a current production Colt 1911 Classic, O1911C. Found some on GunBroker that I could read the serial number in the photos and they all had GV serial numbers. Go to Colt.com and look under traditional pistols. JFN -

What model 1911 do you like/use for WB?
J. Frank Norfleet replied to Doc Holloman's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Doc, The Krag was used extensively in Sweden and Norway in competition. They used a box type speed loader that holds 5 rounds. Bogus Deal currently has mine and I think he is going to try duplicate it. You can find picture of that type of loader and another one that was made for a while in the US. Also you can find videos on YouTube of them being used in competition. Super easy to use: open the bolt, open the load gate, dump the 5 rounds in, close the load gate and chamber a round. Someone needs to make them again as they are incredibly hard to find. JFN -
My sincerest apologies Joe. The purpose of my post was to give my experience, which happens to be different. I didn't intend to challenge your position as the preeminent expert on everything. No, I don't use a bulge buster. After loading and shooting 250,000 Wild Bunch rounds in the last 10 years I haven't found a need for one. I do make sure that the sizing die kicks out a round that will case gauge. Adding powder, seating a bullet and crimping isn't going to make it any smaller. If it doesn't case gauge there it won't after going through the next three stages on the press. I have encountered a number of 1911s with tight chambers. Before I'd buy a bulge buster I'd send the barrel to BD and have him ream it out. I did that with an 9mm 1911, last year. The rounds would case gauge but wouldn't drop in the chamber. Another was a new shooter I loaded some ammo for. The last I heard was that the barrel was so tight BD had to modify a reamer before it would even go in the chamber. JFN PS: It is good to see you finally agree with BD on something.
