Blackfoot we have had good results with lead bullets in the 2 grove barrels. I have several Springfield 1903 & 03A3's that shoot 1 to 1 1/2 MOA using lead bullets pushing them @ 1550 FPS. I use Federal Large Gold Medal Primers and IMR 4759 Powder and a Gas Check Lead Bullet. I have one 03A3 with a 4 grove barrel and I get the same results. Goatneck

We will have a BAMM Match at Winter Range along with our other Wild Bunch side matches. Our distances this year will be 100 yards and 125 yards. 10 rounds lead or FMJ Bullets. Stay away from the Model 12 super X 3 in mag. They do not make for a reliable WB Shotgun

CK Not to cook your beans.............. Shooting Wild Bunch and Cowboy Action a lot of us use a 12ga Chamber Gauge to check all our shotgun rounds. This prevents lots of problems with hulls that stick in doubles and Pump Guns that do jam from time to time. In an earlier post it was suggested the shogun be sent back to Coyote Cap. I would recommend exactly that. I know Cap and he will stand behind his product. I build lots of Cowboy and WB shotguns for customers and that's what I would suggest to one of my customer's with a functioning issue. NO, the slide lock release button and assembly have to remain in tack unaltered. You do not understand, there are other features in the shotgun that are modified.

Lone Dog my friend the Model 25 was not considered for Wild Bunch competition. It was talked about but not considered at all. Why would someone want to own a model 25 when they could buy the Mod 12 which is a superior shotgun. I rest my case.................Mr. Lone Dog. Hey I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks. Dusty and August West are right on target with the explaination. Winchester in their development of the Mod 97 and Mod 12 added a feature to prevent hang fires in the early years of shotgun cartridges. They left the feature in place in the shotguns thru production in the late 1960's of course 97 production ended about 1957 to 58. The feature is spring loaded so when the action is cycled one has to push the slide forward before you can cycle the shotgun. When I build a Mod 12 for Wild Bunch Competition I remove that feature. I have been off the WB Forum for several weeks and just finished reading the 5 pages of discussion of the BAMM Side Matches. Let me share some background information about BAMM. AS most of you know Vintage Military Rifle Competition has been a popular event in several shooting disciplines for many years. A few years back at our local club Comanche Valley Vigilantes in Cleburne, Texas we tossed around the idea for a Wild Bunch side match using the vintage military rifles. This made for us a good reason to go out and buy more rifles. This brain child came from Dusty Bottoms. Long story short we started shooting a monthly side match. Dusty came up with the name "Bolt Action Military Match" for short "BAMM". What a huge success this side match has been for our club.. We set a few guild line rules to follow. I presented the concept to our Wild Bunch Committee and the rest is history. The rules we have in place were designed where a shooter could purchase a $200 battle rifle and play the game and be competitive with little expense. The BAMM Match is structured so any military rifle off the self can be used. Our distances are close in relation to normal rifle matches. The target size is most generous. Lead can be used if the range will not allow Full Metal Jackets Bullets. Most ranges the targets will not hold up to FMJ bullets. The Nation Rifle Assoc. holds the Nation Championships at Camp Perry every year. One of their matches is a Vintage Military Rifle Match. Their rules are governed by the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program). Our guild lines were taken in part from the CMP. There has been a number of questions arise what is and is not legal. Coloring your front sight is not legal same as in the Traditional class for 1911. Recoil pad is illegal just replace it with steel butt plate. Slings are legal some shooters prefer to shoot off hand. No call if the stock has been shortened. Over the years we have seen gunsmiths and companies refurbish these old battle rifles back to what they looked liked originally. These rifles do fall under "Faithful Reproductions". Good Luck and Good BAMM Shooting Goatneck

J Frank we see a lot of matches on holiday weeks. This year the Texas State Rifle Assoc is holding our WB State Championship and Cowboy State Championship over Memorial Day weekend. The same weekend their is a Regional Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette Championship sponsored by the NRA at the range in Oklahoma City were Land Run is held in two weeks. The Nation Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette Championships in Raton, NM will be held over July 4th this year. Its not to uncommon for Matches to be held on long weekends Goatneck

The Mag you want is their government model. The officers mag will not work in a standard 1911 its to short. The 7 rd Mag is the one I used. Goatneck

As Blackfoot said the secret to good 1911 Wild Bunch shooting is your magazines. They have to work flawlessly. They have to lock your slide back after your last round every time. Your 1911 must function perfect and a big part of that is your magazine. I will not use mags just because they are cheap. Invest in a good quality product and you will be happier in the long run. I use Tripp magazines. They aren't cheap but they work perfect in all my 1911's. Chip McCormick builds a match quality product also. One practice I have learned over the years, when you have a magazine that quits working throw it away most of the time it is not repairable. When I do an Action Job on a customer's 1911 I also include tuning one magazine. I have jigs to reshape the lips on the mags for lead bullets. Most all magazines are set from the factory for jacketed bullets not lead. The one exception is the Tripp magazines. Good luck and welcome to Wild Bunch Shooting Goatneck

If you paid for the Lengthening of the Forcing Cones than it was included in your package. It is an extra option that is a few dollars more. Now LD nobody is immune to recoil when shooting a shotgun. Even the shotgun pros tune their guns for the least amount of recoil. Cowboy shooters are no exception. Now think about it if your shotgun recoils less, than your second shot acquisition is quicker. Its as much as 1 to 2 seconds per stage. Figure that over a 10 stage match and its between 10 and 20 seconds total time saved.

Lone Dog One feature I do for my customers when doing an action job on the Model 12's is lengthen the Forcing Cones. This is a 3 fold benefit. First it produces a symmetrically round shot pattern secondly it eliminates the holes in the pattern which produces a denser pattern. Lastly is reduces recoil by about 20%. This allows the shooter quicker 2nd thru 6th shot recovery time. Also in the Cowboy Double shotguns I build over 90% of the customers request this option.

We had some very lovely Ladies shooting Wild Bunch at Winter Range this year. It was a pleasure shooting with them on our posse. We are seeing a new trend in WB this is the largest percentage of ladies shooting than the percentage of ladies who shot the Cowboy Match at WR. Happy Jack had the same observation.

In my BAMM Rifles 1903's 1903A3's and the 98 Mauser with Lead Bullets I use IMR 4759 or you can use IMR 4227. I use a bullet sized to .310. Group size at 100yds with all my rifles will print 1 minute of angle. I push the vel. at 1550fps. Works good and meters very good. Goatneck
