JFN, Has your friend found his leading issue and if so what does he believe it was? Tully -
Happy New Year's!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's to everyone! Tully

"Cost, RD and now Promo are cheaper." Got it. Was just wondering :)

Buy both and don't look back. The manual's give more information then just load data and the chronograph's tell the absolute truth! JFN's correct load data can be found online from the powder maker, but there is interesting things elsewhere in the manuals, such as the history of the cartridge or being able to compare different cartridges performances. Most top shooters have moved to 230 grains for the reasons mentioned by Boggus and others. JFN, I'm curious as to why your "practice" rounds are different powder than your big match rounds. Is it simply powder availability or something else? Tully

Leading problems in 45 ACP
Tully Mars replied to J. Frank Norfleet's topic in Reloading for Wild Bunch
I believe his loads are of low velocity and not excessive velocity, according to Hodgdon's load data 5.0 grains is the lowest recommended starting point with a velocity of 892 fps. Although that's faster then my 230's at around 750 fps the 230 is going to seal off the chamber much quicker. I think the leading is caused by the gap difference from end of widest part of the 185 vs 230 reaching the rifled portion of the barrel, thus allowing gas passage and leading. Personally I would verify the bullet size needed, increase my powder charge and look at increasing the OAL to help seal off the chamber quicker to limit gas escaping. I'm betting if that bullet can be moved closer to the end of the chamber and pushed out quicker his problems would diminish. Tully -
I suspect your correct GJ, but things change and knowing now only helps us to prepare. Heck I've got an A303 that I've had for 2 months that I haven't even shot yet! At this rate WR maybe the first time! Don't know why I'm concerned why what ammo to use :) Tully

I would be curious ammo requirements as well. Will FMJ be allowed? Thanks, Tully

I shot with a sling on my 97' without issue's for years until I was kindly asked to remove it. Never had a problem with a prop or it being in my way. That said I wouldn't put one back on. Tully

Silvertip I agree. Wish we both could have made it. I'm betting we're not the only ones missing out though. Everyone have a great time and shoot well! Tully

In Your Opinion, What is a "Real" Wild Bunch Match?
Tully Mars replied to Allie Mo's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
A "real WB match" in my opinion. Should have a mixture of fast stages that allow those with speed to excel as well as accuracy stages and movement! Shotgun reloads from time to time and birds! Less rifle. Lots of movement! 4-6 magazine changes, but not using the same targets just for the sake of a higher round count. Did I mention Movement? All targets should be hit able for all shooters! Of course that means the shooter needs to be capable of hitting dueling tree or hostage taker targets at WB target distances. Practice, practice, practice... "WB isn't cowboy with a 1911"! I think that qiute sums up what a "Real WB match" should be. Tully -

Tully Mars replied to Allie Mo's topic in The Wild Bunch Wire
Allie, Maybe the question should be "What makes a Real WB shooter"? We seem to like punishment, challenging scenario's, small targets, lots of movement and high round counts! It's a lot of FUN and we keep coming back for more! Tully -

Boggus you just described a GCWB match written by Sutter Lawman! Tully -
JJ, Is this the left hand ejector from the bolt? If so I believe that spring tension holds the pin in place. Is the spring leg broken? The Smith Shop or Cowboys and Indians would have quality replacements. Tully

23 days and counting! This sounds like it's going to be a heck of a lot of FUN!! ER thanks for the updates and all the hard work by yourself and others! I can do anything you want on Monday as far as side match duties. Tuesday I will only be available until 4pm and would be happy to help out until that time. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon! Tully

The more I think about it, I will order a new WB Spring Kit right after I am finished here rather than the continued screwing around with something that is 60 years old. Thanks again - J.J. I think that's a wise move. See you all tomorrow! Tully
-
JJ, If your coming to GCWB with the Nevada guys tomorrow. I can bring you a spring. No guarantees it will fix your problem, but you welcome to it. Tully
