  1. Sorry sir I am not cybernetically inclined enuff to have a clue how to do pics. I'm sure Smith has some on their website. It looks just like those 8)
  2. I could never remember to do it. But I always carry a big ole white bar towel around wit me to mop sweat etc. It now goes in the triggerguard at the lt as my "indicator"
  3. Never even fondled until I had the spare cash, didn't want to use plastic. Only ogled until she could come home with me...
  4. Had my eye on this thing for the better part of a year. Everytime I would venture down to the lgs it would wink at me. Coupla weeks ago I sold a Marlin and the hunnerds been burnin' a hole in me pocket so tonite she came home with me. Smith commander length barrel E model with the round butt and scandium frame. Trijicon Novaks. Fish scale cocking serrations front and rear. Commander hammer, actually the new skeletonized version. Already had a full size stainless E (that now becomes my second most fave) but this new one is so much more svelte and sexy and quite a bit lighter. What's not to like. It sho am purdy. I love it. This makes 8 1911s now. Yes it's a weakness.
  5. Yup, my E series Smith immediately became my fave 1911 and I have a half dozen. It gobbled up bubba handloads that my Ruger would not even chamber.
  6. I have always just used a Sharpie on the white dot sights. Gets right in there good. Shoe polish? HAR!
  7. Well there is considerable debate about that. Go to Desperado bullets site, I believe it is cowboybullets.com and read all about it. I buy in to what they are preaching. Soft lead bullets will obdurate up in to the grooves and shoot cleaner than those fool too hard cast pills that just strip on by leaving lead behind
  8. Har! Well only about 3 or 4 mebbe 5 of the originals are running at this time. One that is not is a 16 gauge take down that someone welded into a solid that is ineligible to play WB anyway. After my first 3 years in CAS 1996 to 99 I switched to the 97 and began accumulating the fool things. Shot the trombones for a decade or so and went back to the double. Then WBAS came along and the ole junkers got to come back out to play. 4 years ago at the first TX state WB champeenship my prize chinee trench gun locked up solid on stage one. 6 misses and then the 45C 73 did the same on stage two for oh about 7 or 8 more misses cementing my hold on last place. One shooter didn't show Sunday boosting me in to next to last. Sent the trench to Squibber who declared it a parts gun only. Down to one chink 97 and one mebbe two 93/97s that might run. I will never buy another Chinese pump. The originals have contributed mightily to my gunsmith's retirement fund and must needs continue to do so forever. Just the nature of the beast and the way it is out west...
  9. I have 4 Model 12s and intend to keep acquiring them even tho I despise all the balky things equally. One was slicked by a famous smith and it is no better than the other 3. I find them contrary to say the least. Oh I will continue to play with them at local matches... But when I go to the line at a big match one of my dozen or so original or half dozen Norinco 97s will be accompanying me. Besides with the 97 you don't have to worry about showing the state of the trigger to the TO or sticking a bar towel or bandana in the trigger guard to remind yourowndangself to do so. In my eyes the 97 is the greatest pump of all time. The M12 can never be any more than a distant second place...
  10. Cabelas has RNL reloads in bulk
  11. We have lived in this house since 1958 and there are several springs here and there still soldiering as good as then. All my mags are designed for 8 rounds. If I have some loaded with 5 or even 7 at the end of a match you can bet your sweet bippy I am not going to unload them. Just that many I don't have to load up next time. Not something to worry about.
  12. There have been times when an old 1911 from WWI have been found fully loaded and the mag still worked just fine as designed. Mag springs taking a "set" is a myth. Not something to worry about.
  13. HJ, your statement that Chinese trench guns are now illegal for import is the first time I have heard that. Would you please advise where you came on that? I thought the Chinese had just stopped making any 97s at this time. Seems the 870 et al clones are much bigger sellers, much easier to make and much more profitable. I know POTUS has banned Russian arms imports but I have sure not heard of any recent ban on any Chinese products.
  14. My dad and uncles had another name for the newsboy cap..
  15. Well Garand one of the most popular catch phrases of WBAS is "it's not CAS with a 1911". Indeed it is not and one more very good reason to cut the 5 round tie to CAS and go with 7 round mags like St. JMB intended. This outcry is not going to die down or go away and sooner or later the 5 round restriction will go the way of the dodo. In the future we will look back and wonder how and why it ever was instituted to start with.
  16. Yes I know what SASS says about MODERN combat boots in CAS. I would not think the old brown lace up combat boots from byegone eras would fall in that characterization. So my observation stands -- old brown lace up boots should be fine with any WB costume, doughboy or cowboy. I do not understand the fallacy of my thinking here.
  17. Just curious but why would period military style boots not be equally legal if worn with the regular CAS costume?
  18. I am old, crippled up, slow, and in the way. I do not enjoy endurance events.
  19. I just wear my usual CAS clothes. So did Pike, Dutch, Lyle, Tector, and Angel after they got out of them monkey suits. If you want to go with the doughboy look anything and everything from Indian Wars to SpanAm to WWI are welcome. No one is going to look down on anyone else's garb in this game. We are a welcoming bunch so just wear whatcha want.
  20. Har!! I am a lot of things. "Flashy" ain't one of 'em and that is for sure and for certain. I do not care if all the blue or parkerizing wears plum off any of my 1911s. That is honest wear. Just keep 'em wiped down with an oily rag everytime they are fired, they'll be just fine. I might buy a used nickel gun if the price is right. But to spend money on gold-plating? Not a chance.
  21. BD, I have an AO basic GI model and it has been rock solid and dead nuts reliable in WB competion. Love that gun. Just love my R1 and here lately a certain SR1911 a bit more. I think mine was one of the first off the line after Kahr bought AO. Great gun. My first WB gun was a GI RIA I gave $399 for at a local gun shop not known for good pricing. That thing is still going strong.
  22. JB, that set looks exactly like the brown set I ordered from SG one time other than being black. The belt was hard to tell if it was made of leather or cardboard but the holster and mag pouches were decent for the price.
  23. Oh I didn't say we shouldn't be wearin' them blousy breeches. I said I had never seen a WB shooter wearin' 'em and that I would not be paying $55 for a pair. Too steep for this cheapie charlie GI. Would love to have several pair and them tall brown boots jest cain't afford it. 1907, 1913 what's a decade or two here or there? Dusty the move is off and I get to remain a High Plains Panhandle man. She came to her senses...
  24. Not gonna have to go too far out on a limb and say most WBAS shooters do not wear those jodphur breeches. I have been shooting WB for years and been to many a WB match and have never seen even one shooter in them. I for one am not gonna pony up $55 for a pair. So long as it is legal I will continue to just wear the duds I wear in regular CAS. Got enuff of wearing a uniform in the green machine and 25 years of deputying. I do encourage others to go as all out as they care to with their doughboy look even tho the movie that we base this sport on was set in what about 1907 not 1917? Go for it , power to alla y'all. I'm just overjoyed when we did away with the felt hats only rule. That was sure a blessing for us sweaty heads. Harrumphh...
  25. To answer the man's original question wherein he asked for 1911 v A1 versions: I like the look of the Cimarron 1911 most especially the shiny sporty spiffy nickel one. Not sure where they are made but I suspect maybe Turkey or the Phillipines. Leaning more toward the Phillipines but maybe someone will chime and say for sure.
