Silvertip
Has anyone tried this looking for something to help my wife work the slide easier. ST
Garrison Joe
I round off the lower back corner of the firing pin retainer, or get a commercial retainer plate that is already fixed. Cuts more effort than you would think! Swap springs for a 19# main and a 15# recoil spring, and I find most ladies can handle the slide fine. Good luck, GJ
Silvertip
That’s all done already but arthritis still makes it hard. ST
Happy Jack
Some shooters use the modified hammers on MODERN category guns. Seems to help. You might contact Boggus deal about it. I think he has modified some stock hammers.
Boggus Deal
HJ is close. I have a hammer of my design but more important, is a redesigned firing pin stop. PM me.
August West
Is she pulling the slide back, or PUSHING the slide back. IOW, is pointing her thumb at herself and putting her entire hand on the slide, or trying to do it with just the thumb and forefinger. Johnson County Mike
Hi, if she cocks the hammer then pulls the slide back it will be easier. Is this Wild Bunch legal ? I don't know, probably not. Clint Smith had a video about pushing the slide back with your whole hand; I think this is what August West is saying. I search for this Thunder Ranch video but can't find it, regards, Mike
J. Frank Norfleet
There are many ways to rack the slide. Most guys sling shot it. But this is what I teach the ladies in my CCW classes: For a right handed shooter. Grip and draw the pistol with your right hand. Place your left hand on the slide, all four fingers and thumb either in front of or behind the ejection port. (Ask Kid Rich about covering the ejection port.) Your thumb is towards you on the left side of the slide and fingers on the right side. Brace the left forearm against your stomach and and hold it there. With your right hand push the pistol out of the left hand with out moving the forearm from your stomach. The closer to your body the more strength you have and the farther away you strength decreases dramatically. BTW I use Boggus's hammer and firing pin retainer along with a reduced main spring and recoil spring. JFN
Silvertip
She does push the frame and pull the slide it’s just arthritis is making it harder to grasp the slide, so checking for extra ideas. Bogus I sent a PM. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. ST
Happy Jack
Silvertip, when charging the pistol it IS LEGAL to cock the hammer first then rack the slide. Be careful of muzzle direction when doing it.

Bogus I sent a PM. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. ST She should not pull the slide. The hand and arm that holds the slide should be held immobile against her side and then push the frame of the gun with her other hand this is much easier to do. kR PS check J Franks post and do it like that.
