  1. Internet “experts” not withstanding, a 230 gr bullet in the 1911 at around 725 FPS is faster to shoot than a 200 gr at 800. The time clock doesn’t lie or speak opinions. After testing several thousands of rounds, split times between shots are faster with the 230 than the 200. At at match where there may be several hundred rounds fired, those minute times add up. While I have considered testing the 250 grain bullet, finding them easily on a regular basis is not worth it.
  2. Does the guide rod move freely? Put your recoil spring back in an it can help center the guide rod. Otherwise, disassemble lower end and remove the S80 levers as they could be sticking. Make sure you’re not pulling the trigger as you try to remove the slide. If so, you could be pushing those levers up into the slide.
  3. HI Gang; Is it true that in other gun games a single DQ is always a match DQ, put your gun away you are done for the day?

In my experience with other shooting sports, yes. No minor safety. No SDQ. You’re either okay or you’re done.

  4. Thank you Tully and Two Dot,

Since I don't shoot cowboy, I didn't think to look there.

    That's a fair assessment for a SDQ.

For cowboy it is. Not so much in Wild Bunch. When a cowboy stage has 24 shots, it’s not a big deal. When a WB stage has more pistol rounds than that plus rifle and shotgun, it’s as good as a match DQ.

  5. Do not load AMERC brass.  It is so badly made it is not worth keeping.

I smash mine with a hammer or pliers and it goes directly in recycle box.  I don't want any going on the ground at the range that would have been MY FAULT for it being there.

Almost all other brass I find I can make work.  AMERC cannot be fixed, except by melting into plumbing fixtures.

I'm glad now that I see almost none of it anymore.

I’m not sure it’d make good plumbing fixtures....

    Good luck, GJ

  6. I don’t shoot Traditional, yet, but Lady Jane does. One of the many things she has learned is to not fall for the idea to have the magazine in your offhand out by the gun. You cannot beat the empty mag out of the gun and having your offhand braced somewhere against your body is a much more stable, and accurate, platform than it having out there waving in the breeze.

The next thing I’m going to say will go against the grain of what has been said. Quit focusing on the front sight. It is a very, very distant second to the most important thing: trigger control. Spend days lining up the sights on target and jerk the trigger and you will miss.
