  1. Our range opened - with restrictions (10 people max per range etc) last Sunday. it was SO good to get out and shoot! (That was IPSC...but who cares! LOL) Off today for the Wednesday "Retirees and Work Shirkers shoot" that i run at noon.... ;D and yeah...appreciate you arranging the pdf in "ozzie" format!! :)
  2. I LIKE that idea! We have done something similar with a 1911 in 22.... and I have my 9mm Steyr which would be suitable... Good stuff!
  3. We aren't allowed anything with a barrel under 121 mm (4.75") so any "Pocket" type pistols are "out" What I intend to offer as an (equally unofficial) side match at our next 2 dayer is a Precision Pistol match for "any pistol issued to a military force prior to the end of WW2 , or faithful reproduction thereof" (Not hard to see where I got that from?) but with the caveat..."OTHER THAN a 1911" A 6 round side match... so suitable for any old revolvers as well. Its worth a try. I hope some interesting guns appear.

Well said. I think its important to emphasise that in those days Uniforms were not as "uniform" as they are today.... shirts and trousers included. Different makers, different batches.... Its perfectly alright to have "shades"...lol
  5. Even if the Ishapore was considered a "faithful reproduction" of the SMLE No 1 MkIII* (and I doubt that given the different magazine and FAL butt plate) the calibre is a problem.... "The rifle must be an original calibre bolt action....." I think you'll find all the rechambered Israeli Mausers and similar guns are also excluded for precisely that reason. Sorry.
  6. Having some trouble with match photos...but these were the very original awards for the Bolt action match that one of our shooters came up with... 3d - printed cartridges and clip.... (not sure how I posted that twice!)
  7. I share the same view as all you folks! Can't stop others doin' what they want though...lol And thanks Mr Norfleet... I THOUGHT we used to prohibit that! Im not crazy after all.... (well...…….)
  8. Yep...that was my interpretation of that rule too.... Thanks! I too just carry extra mags... this was a question from a local leather maker who had been asked to make a holster with loops on it...
  9. I feel I shouldn't have to ask but - a stupid question IS better than a stupid mistake.... Can a holster have ammo loops on it and may they be used? (The relevant section of the rules includes "holster" as one of the legit ways of carrying "loose ammunition" so I am assuming...yes?) And ...I WAS sure there was a prohibition on loading a single LOOSE round into the 1911... but I can't find that anywhere so am doubting myself now!!! Thanks in advance!
  10. Class C...so we are mainly shooting Levers....
  11. Just reporting in on our latest match Down Under. From noon on Friday until noon Sunday (22-24 Nov) we ran "South of the Border" here in Canberra ACT, Australia. We had 26 shooters registered, and 25 shot the match. For us that is an excellent turnout. Friday afternoon was for side matches. A 25 round Bolt Action match. A 2 Stage "Doughboy" match. Speed Pistol/Rifle/Shotgun and Precision Pistol. Saturday and Sunday saw us shoot 10 Main match stages and on Saturday afternoon those who were keen to shoot some more had a go at another Precision Pistol side match that my fevered imagination came up with. I called it the "Classic Precision Pistol" and it was 7 rounds shot on one of those big slow fire pistol targets...at 25 metres.... and ONLY using the classic "teapot" Duellist stance lol. It was a lot of fun.... winning score was 65/70. Not too shabby! It seems that everyone had a great time... and as the temperature didn't get up to 115 as it did at the last 2 day match in January it was rather more pleasant! Planning is under way for the next event.... We are unable to run POP type matches here... minimum legal barrel length is 4.75" so you can see the problem... SO.. We are going to offer another side match to try to bring interesting old guns out of safes and back to the range.... The intention is to have an event for "any handgun issued to/used by a military force prior to the end of WW2... OTHER THAN a 1911." Should be fun! Will try to post some photos of the match....
  12. Its getting harder to find commercially cast bullets Down Under that are NOT coated. All the major casters seem to offer ONLY coated projies now.... Ive been using them for years now..(45ACP, $% Colt, 38 Special and many, many 9mm) and like them a lot... I especially like the fact that I am not handling exposed lead... (although I am pretty serious about hand washing after any loading/cleaning/brass sorting/you name it) Just seem cleaner in every respect.
  13. Always the first weekend in October? Hoping to shoot this match and the TX State in 2020!!!
  14. I have a very tight chambered 1911 in 9mm for IPSC (Beautifully made by Boggus Deal BTW..) I use the EGW undersized sizing die for that and it works brilliantly. Those dies are .003" "tighter" than standard....and are available in 45 acp. (They are in fact made BY Lee!)
  15. Thankee! trying to plan a trip taking in a good WB match..AND a good USPSA match!
  16. Ooo… I wanna see a Golden gun!!!!! Pleeease!
  17. The pistol is a Chilean contract gun...so may well be marked as a "1911"... that would be amusing. 9mm Steyr , fixed 8 round mag in the butt loaded with stripper clips. This may well be the easiest obsolete handgun to actually shoot.... why? 1. Starline makes 9mm Steyr brass (!!!!) and in any case it is almost dimensionally identical to 38 Super Comp 2. 38 Super dies reportedly work just fine 3. Stripper clips? LOL.... Rim diameter of 9mm Steyr is .382 - And 5.56 rim diameter is .378. Yes.. M16 stripper clips reportedly work! How cool is that? Do we have a "Foreign guns" side match for WB?
  18. Well.... I now have the 95 Steyr...and have shot it. Man.. did I get lucky. It looks like a refurb...wood and bluing are very nice indeed (but stamped serial numbers on the wood are still very clear....) Rifling looks crisp and sharp and... TBH? Pretty much unused. Receiver/barrel and stock have matching numbers... bolt and upper handguard do not. Can't say i'm at all surprised. Sights and trigger are what you would expect on a rifle from that era... (im hoping the trigger can be improved..we will see!) Accuracy is fine with jacketed. Waiting on some lead pills to try... I tried the "% of case capacity" Trail Boss loads but couldn't get above about 1300 fps. So a bit more research was done and Im using the local "AR2209" which is pretty much an analogue of 4350. FOUR clips came with it...a little bonus.. and Wow! What a great system! On the fifth round there is a little "ping" and the clip falls out the bottom... as advertised. Loading a clip is smooth and easy. If you get the feeling Im impressed you are absolutely correct! Being the Infantry Rifle it is quite long... a 30.5" barrel will do that.... but it handles pretty well. I suspect I will haul it over there before too long...and join the fun... An old CAS friend saw my photos of this rifle and revealed he had TWO of the 1912 Steyr pistols... Because he's a good bloke he agreed to sell me one to "round out" my Austro-Hungarian combat set...lol Sitting out the 28 day waiting period on that right now.... sigh.
  19. We are currently shooting "what ya brung" but Australia is probably a bit far to go just to shoot jacketed! LOL Dusty! A QUESTION! Are you using the "70% case capacity Trail Boss " loads with lead in these rifles???
  20. Will do! The rifle is coming with about 70 cases... 100 projectiles...3 Mannlicher clips...and dies. So I can make a good start there.....The barrel condition is of course the big question. no matter how good it might LOOK the proof is, as always, in the shooting. Still... this will be an interesting experiment....
  21. We are slowly getting BAMM going Down Under too.... Had 2 matches so far as part of State WB matches and as you folks might have guessed the most common rifles used here (so far) are of course the Lee-Enfields. We've seen early WW1 vintage No 1 Mk III's, right up to late war No 4 Mk Is... along with Mosin- Nagants, Mausers and a sole O3-A3 (they are scarce and $$$$$$$$$$ down here unfortunately) Those of you who know me won't be surprised to know I've been looking for something...different. Would love a K-31 (or a Krag) but availability here is very poor... what I DID find is perhaps a LITTLE more different than I was intending. An M1895 Steyr Infantry Rifle. 1917 manufacture. Straight pull. Uses Mannlicher style en bloc clips. 8 x 56R...which uses an odd 329/330 projectile - which fortunately ARE available. Looking forward to seeing how this 102 year old Austro-Hungarian Army issue rifle goes on the range... fingers crossed. As an aside , while I was shooting a Mosin at our last match a thought occurred to me... Just HOW unlikely is it that a rifle built at the Tula Arsenal (200 kilometres south of Moscow) ...in 1928.. would end up being used at a shooting match - in Australia - based on a Movie set in 1913 Mexico? (Yep..I do have too much time on my hands!!!)
