As already mentioned...very useful in SOME circumstances. My decision to do so (or not) is based on whether the tactical reload simplifies the engagement sequence, or complicates it. ;D I don't do it just because its possible... Elwood James gave an excellent example...another would be on a double tap sweep of 3 targets for 14 rounds... 6 then 8.

Nah Mate..we are still not allowed to travel...... bloody COVID... We have a Wild Bunch side match (3 stages at least) at our State CAS match in a few months...I'm planning/running that one and will try to make it something special!

Was planning to come over for that..and go on to British Columbia for their Provincial IPSC match.... Sigh. Next year??????

Or if the Stage requires the pistol to be staged in a box/container or something of that nature.... Why yes, I AM evil, thanks for noticing... ;D ;D

G'day folks! I am searching for a gun to shoot Traditional with (finally) and its been hard. I need something with sights I can SEE....and was looking for a Remington R1... but that proved fruitless.. I HAVE found a Colt down here in Australia (at only a moderately eye watering price... ;D) BUT I'm thinking its being misidentified..or at least poorly described. It is advertised as a "Colt 1911 Government National Match" with a serial GV210XXX... I THINK it is just their basic "1911 Classic" (which comes with a "National match" barrel according to the catalogue) and would appreciate any help with confirming what it is based on that GV prefix??? Thankee!

1400 might work for 45-70 but it will be difficult to keep to with .30-06 or .30-40 for Doughboy. My load books dont have data for velocities that low. Get you some Trail Boss! ;D I'm getting 1350 with a 90% full or so case of TB in an 8 x 56R.

Nothing to stop you offering that at club level. At our recent little WB State Titles we offered a Precision side match for "Pre 1945 handguns, other than 1911's" I took my 1912 Steyr along and a bunch of people shot it... (got beaten with my own gun which is the norm when you loan them out! lol) and another guy turned up with a Nagant Revolver. ;D Hope to build on that next year.

I use an old STI Spartan that has been worked on by someone who clearly knew what they were doing. Don't recall ANY problems with it (other than losing the rear sight screw...lol..ended up with a "tangent sight" on the first shot.) As has already been said - Good quality magazines that the gun likes are critical . Good ammo too. Gauge every round even if (like mine) your pistol "isn't fussy" Ammo and mags are what seem to be most problematic for new WB shooters..IME. The guns seem to work fine if those two factors are taken care of.

Thankee sir! That 45 ACP load falls right where the (limited) data I found would suggest... on that basis I shall feel failry confident the 45 Colt load is also a decent starting point!

Hi folks, With powder hard to find I came across a goodly amount of Vectan A-1, (and at a favourable price!) and so i grabbed it. It would SEEM to be a suitable powder for 45 ACP/Colt.... but, as we tend to do, I am looking for any personal experiences with it. I load both calibres with a 200gr RNFP..and what data I can find seems to suggest about 4.4 gr or so for our sort of loads.... Anyone have experience with it? TIA!

Greetings all... :D Some good news from your Aussie WB compatriots. For some time now we have been limping along, with WB only available as an "approved match" in 2 states..(or rather one State and the "Territory" I live in, but close enough) The way our firearm regulations work that "approval" is quite critical to being able to purchase and use the guns needed for any particular match - in this case the 45 auto. Well... due to hard work by some keen shooters in Victoria and South Australia, those two States have recently gained approval for Wild Bunch. At the latest Victorian State CAS match this month we ran a WB RO course for 10 cowboys from those two jurisdictions. I am looking forward to (hopefully) seeing some real growth in the next year or so. ;D ;D

That brings back memories. Out practicing with 2 near identical 1911's... a 45 and a 9mm.... I think you can see where this is going....Yep...wrong mag... rack the slide... 9mm ROUND goes "plop" onto the ground..... ;D

One question.... The RO/MD Handbook and Pocket Reference card have a SDQ listed for "A live round left in an inserted magazine of a 1911 once the gun leaves the shooters hands" ...as mentioned above...but that penalty does not (seem to) appear in the Stage Disqualification section in the new Shooters Handbook... Have I missed something? (Wouldn't be the first time) Thanks for all the work!!! It truly IS appreciated.

Absolutely understand that the rule has to stand... but it has been an interesting discussion for sure! ;D

While the rules appear clear on this weird situation, it seems self evident that the INTENT of the rule (that "each target hit with illegally acquired ammunition" be counted as a miss) was to penalise SCORING shots on targets with "illegally acquired ammunition". In the situation the OP described it appears (to me at least) that the shooter engaged all the targets correctly THEN emptied the rifle on to a target. No intent by him/her that they were to be scoring shots? In THAT case I would suggest that the Procedural (plus the extra time to actually do it) are a sufficient penalty. 3 misses as well seems excessive. JMHO.
