Boomstick Bruce
How much can I open up the mag well in my 1911? I see in the rules that "Magazine wells may be beveled, but may not be oversized, extended, or flared." I assume that's referring to those add-on magwells but before I go filing away metal from the frame of my gun to make the beveled part wider, I want to make sure I'm not doing an illegal mod. Thanks! J. Frank Norfleet
I'd say you can file a lot away. Here is a photo from the WB RO course of a legal beveled mag well. Notice it is cut into the mainspring housing. JFN
Boomstick Bruce
Wow!!! That's way more than I was thinking of doing! Awesome, now I have a goal to hit! Thanks!
Boomstick Bruce
Is this mod ok for traditional?
Garrison Joe
Yes, it's legal for Traditional. You can tell because the rule is stated in the allowed modifications lists for Traditional and Modern pistols. Both my WB guns are so modified, and about as deep as the picture. Except I saw no need to funnel the mainspring housing more than just a slight bevel, as I chamfered the bottom front of the frame. Haven't missed yet slamming a mag home. good luck, GJ
Boggus Deal
This amount of beveling won about 10 state championships, a couple regional championships, two overall national championships and was second in the world behind Last Chance Morales a few times. You really don’t need much.
Boomstick Bruce
Wv state wb champioship starts tomorrow and it was brought up because I shoot traditional and my 1911 is modified like the one in the frank norfleets pic, not as much but close. Thanks for the clarification.
