Totes Magoats Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Anyone familiar with the Nighthawk IOS slide cut? Would it be legal for WB assuming the rear sight mounted on the plate is legal for that category? Pics here: https://www.nighthawkcustom.com/interchangeable-optic-system Thanks, Totes Quote
Boggus Deal Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago That looks like a Novak sight cut. As long as there is no optic mounted, Novak sights are legal in Modern. Obviously, it can’t have a fiber optic either. Quote
Jorge Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Is the slide and barrel ported? Doesn't seem to be a one piece slide, as the front sight is separate from the rear of the slide. Interesting though Quote

Nighthawk will cut any 1911 slide to accept the plate, then you can swap between rear sight options (red dot, etc) and not lose zero. So, for WB, assuming the rear that is installed on the plate is legal, would that modification to a 1911 slide be legal? Totes Quote

Obviously, the front sight dovetails into the slide. And neither the barrel nor slide is ported. Quote
Jorge Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago It may depend on how much weight it adds to the overall 1911. Looks like it might be acceptable for Modern. Quote

Jorge Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I see that it is dovetailed into a piece of metal, but what is the "line" lot the rear of the front sight? Quote

He’s not talking about the front sight or the ports. He’s talking about the rear sight. The rear sight dovetails to a plate and by changing just the plate, you can mount several different sighting options. With the Novak style rear sight, it would not add any weight to the gun. If anything it might take a little away. Quote

For this topic, let's assume a currently legal 1911 pistol was modified with this rear slide cut and a plate was installed with a known legal rear sight. Would the modified pistol still be WB legal (modern or traditional)? 1 Quote
Jorge Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Looks like an idea long overdue. Since it is not specifically allowed, let's get an official ruling and see if it can be legal. Quote
Jorge Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Boggus, why didn't you think of that? you would be rolling in the dough from the royalties. Quote

Jorge Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I posed the question in our WBAS RO area. I hope it is viewed favorably. Quote

That would take a submission to SASS for a modification, referred to the ROC for review/discussion and voted on by the TG's. Marshal Stone Quote
