I made this comment in response to a photo that SASS posted on Facebook. The backdrop to the SASS booth at the Great American Outdoor Show is a colorful photo (Monument Valley, I suppose) with a centered caption that reads "Single Action Shooting Society" and under that "Shooting Sports". Under that heading "Cowboy Action Shooting" is on the left and "Wild Bunch Action Shooting" on the right. To the newcomer it coveys the message that SASS offers two separate shooting sports (which has been true for some time) but also that they are equally important, instead of CAS being the primary focus of SASS while WBAS is an afterthought. This is subtle messaging but I thought it meaningful and a demonstration that SASS really wants to promote Wild Bunch.

Temporary front strap grip enhancement
Abe E.S. Corpus replied to C.N. Double's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
My 1911 is a Series 70 Gold Cup with vertical grooves on the front strap. I have two folks in my area who checker 1911 frames. Neither were willing to cross hatch the frame due I suppose to the depth of the factory grooves. -
Temporary front strap grip enhancement

Very early on I asked about the Wilson checkered “panel” and was told it was LEGAL. I’d think skateboard tape may not be but I’ve never seen it asked or answered. -
A knowledgeable WB shooter mentioned that the term “steel framed” was omitted in the 2024 revision. I said before that it would be helpful to have a “redline” each time a Handbook is revised.

The Belton Bushwhackers hold a Wild Bunch match on 5th Saturdays but since the 5th Saturday of March is very close to The Bushwhack (the SC State Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting there will not be a match on March 30. There will be a Wild Bunch mini-match on Thursday April 11, 2024 which is “side match day” at The Bushwhack. See www.beltonbushwhackers.com or www.scstatematch.com for details. Match Director “Sgt. Dork” knows how to write good stages.

Watching for 2024 Handbook
Abe E.S. Corpus replied to Abe E.S. Corpus's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
Will a redline showing all the changes from the prior version be available, or (as with prior revisions) a summary of the changes? I see a few changes that were not in the SASS announcement in 2023. -
Watching for 2024 Handbook
Abe E.S. Corpus replied to Abe E.S. Corpus's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
I realize that. One of the changes up to CAS TG voting is to treat the shotgun the same as the rifle in regard to movement from the LT to staging. That’s a change that I understand was already being considered for WBAS. It makes sense because we load the shotgun similarly to the rifle. -
With the changes announced by SASS being effective January 1, 2024 I expected to see a new Handbook by now. It would be nice if the WBAS Handbook would incorporate the changes to the CAS rules that are still out for TG voting.

We’re only a month away from this match. It’s always fun and since Gunpowder Creek has a common firing line you won’t get worn out in the Summer heat resetting reactive steel. -
2022 RULE BOOKS FINALIZED
Abe E.S. Corpus replied to Legendary Lawman's topic in Wild Bunch Rules Forum
What was changed between Versions 16.2 and 16.3 of the Handbook? They are both dated January 2022. -

Stages are posted to the Belton Bushwhackers’ website. -
For several years I used a 200 gr SWC in my Wild Bunch pistol ammo. My pistol feeds them but some do not. Some shooters whose opinion I respect advocate a 230 gr round nose bullet which may generate less muzzle flip than a 200 gr bullet at the 750fps (plus, for margin of error) to make the 150 power factor. I honestly can’t tell a lot of difference at my shooting level but if it feeds better that’s reason enough to go with a lead bullet that duplicates the dimensions of the “ball” ammo the gun was designed to shoot. Goal one for success in WBAS is a pistol/ammo combination that RUNS.

Match now announced as “rifle optional”. That will make a couple of our folks happy. -
I could not find this on Midway USA’s website.

They have announced this will be a “no rifle” match. More info will be posted on the Bushwhackers’ website. www dot BeltonBushwhackers dot com -
The Belton Bushwhackers in Upstate SC hold Wild Bunch matches on 5th Saturdays. The next match is July 29. The match director is Gerald Dunn alias Dun Gamblin alias Sgt Dork. He was MD for a cowboy action club for many years and has been involved in Wild Bunch from the beginning. He is also active in modern shooting sports like USPSA and Three Gun. The Belton club has a large inventory or static and reactive steel for shooters to enjoy.

From Cotton Gloves’ post on Facebook: “Howdy Friends Carolina Wild Bunch Shootout at Gunpowder Creek Lenoir NC September 9, 2023 , 5 stages , lunch and awards all on one day , this year rifle is optional, there are rifle shots , but if you can clear them with the 1911 , you’re good 👍”

I’d say “run what ya brung” for a while, assuming your ‘97 replica operates properly. You can watch for a better deal on a Model 12. I like the Model 12 but still am getting a feel for it. I shot a ‘97 in cowboy for my first few years and am more comfortable with it.

We had 35 on the scoresheet last year. We had some folks registered who did not show but we had some walk-ons as well. There we’re 155 total on the main match scores to give you some scale.
