I'm confused. "pick-up 45 drop mag to show clear and jack out live round" Was the 1911 set down with the slide forward?

I'm sorry, apparently I was mistaken.

Doesn't it have to be brought into battery for that no re-holster to be effective? IE, shooter draws pistol at at wrong time, TO shouts rifle, slide has not been racked. Wouldn't it be the shooters option to lay down or reholster?

In my opinion it would be much simpler and to the point to eliminate all the conditions that you may load with a slide forward. Just leave the first part of the statement in the rule book. • All reloads shall be from slide lock, no “tactical reloads.” You may not reload the pistol with a round in the chamber. (MSV) You may NOT reload a single round in the 1911 by placing it in the chamber and then closing the slide. (MSV) All ammunition must be loaded from a magazine. All reloads shall be from slide lock. (Failure to do so, MSV) THE END! No questions about how the slide got forward, no discussion about was that a malfunction or brain flatulence, no nothing. If the slide is forward and you insert a magazine once the course of fire with the pistol has begun, you bought the penalty.

My assumption is what brought this on was actions at the Texas State match this past weekend. In any event, that is what I am referencing. There is a local shooter who has extensive damage to his right forearm/thumb from a motorcycle wreck years ago. It is difficult for him to pick up the rifle from a flat point, so he props it up a little with the saddle ring. AFAIK there were no ill feelings about this, nor any words exchanged. I believe that J Frank is simply trying to get clarification on how to rule on this. When the initial question was asked/answered I felt as though there were salient points to cover that had not been addressed, hence my "from left field" comment.

So I take it that unlike in SASS, there are no considerations given for shooters with handicaps?

This weekend we had a stage that was laid out this way. Rifle shot from far left window. Move some 25 feet to the right where your SG was staged, engage SG targets. Then from same position engage pistol with 5 rounds, move back left to center window 10 rounds pistol, then left again to door 10 more pistol rounds. I wanted to draw my pistol as I approached SG, lay it on table as I picked up SG. Engage the 6 SG targets, place the SG back to table and pick up 1911, and carry on. Was told that I couldn’t as that would be staging the pistol, which was not called for in stage instructions. However my take on it is that the pistol started the stage in the holster as specified, was not staged before beep. What are your thoughts on this?

Well, it's over for another year. Just completed the 2014 Texas State Wild Bunch championship at Comanche Valley Vigilantes. Thanks to all the people who worked so hard to make it a success for the third year in a row. Great stages written by Goatneck Clem, lots of variety, knock downs and movement. Some very innovative side matches from the fertile mind of Dusty Boddems and Captain Jarrett. Delicious food prepared by Sidewinder Sid and his lovely wife (can't seem to get Saturday's dessert off my mind!). The winners were all 24 shooters who came out and shot in absolutely gorgeous weather, low 80's both days, very few clouds and just enough breeze to keep bugs off of you. The ones who got trophies were; Ladies Modern - Wicked Felina Ladies Traditional - Green Eyed Brazos Belle Mens Modern - Captain Sam Evans Mens Traditional - Goatneck Clem Captain Sam and Brazos Belle were the top ranking man and woman, so are the Texas Champions. Congrats to all that shpt the match, hope to see even more of you next year.

OK, so in the Shooters handbook it says; "9. Once a shooter stages their firearms on the firing line, no other person will touch the firearms. The only exception is if the RO deems it necessary to prevent a severe safety violation. (Any penalties would still apply.) The shooter shall be the only person to move their firearms from the firing line to the unloading table. Posse members shall be instructed not to touch or move any firearm from where the shooter restaged them after completing the firing string with the individual firearm." No where does it say what the penalty will be, nor who gets the penalty. Logic tells me that the person who touched the other person's firearm would receive whatever penalty there may be. But another shooter who just went through the RO course swears that he asked that exact question. He says he was told by the instructor that the shooter would receive a 10 second penalty if anyone else touched their gun(s). This certainly seems convoluted to me. If you wanted to ding someone with a penalty, just carry their rifle to the unloading table!
