External extractor legal?

HI Gang; I read the rules and could not find any rule saying smith and Wesson 1911 with the external extractor is legal or not? All the rest of the gun fits the rules, just wish to check on this point.

It would NOT be legal in Traditional. The Committee is meeting next week and I will bring it up for discussion.

I had assumed that an otherwise compliant 1911 with an external extractor, like the S&W or the Sig Sauer, would be legal.

HI Gang; I was informed by a Governor that external extractors were NOT legal. So that is why I am looking to the Rules committee or who ever has the final say to give a official YES NO answer. I have several 1911 s but do not wish to show up with illegal gun in modern.

Been campaigning a coupla Smiths for years and they are my faves. They will feed anything even stuff that chokes the Ruger SR1911. No one has ever batted an eye at them shooting Modern

I just got back from SHOT. Met with Evil and Bubba. As was posted by Pecos in 2011, external extractors ARE LEGAL in the Modern category. They are NOT LEGAL in the Traditional category. It is so seldom brought up that it has never been mentioned in the rules as an allowable modification in the Modern category. I will make a not to include it in the 2018 Handbooks.
