Flying W Ramrod
A while back, I saw a rule that all pistol rounds must come from a magazine. This precluded using a single, loose, round inserted directly into the chamber. I can't find this rule anymore. Was it removed, and if so, when? J. Frank Norfleet
Yes, If I remember correctly the logic was if you want to damage your extractor by putting a round in the chamber and then dropping the slide, be our guest. I think 3 or 4 years ago, but time flys when you're having fun. JFN
Garrison Joe
There was certainly very little competitive advantage to loading a loose round into a 1911. 😄 Keep a Barney Fife mag (one round in) if you often need one more round. good luck, GJ Edited September 6, 2022 by Garrison Joe remove dead spaces
Abe E.S. Corpus
It was one of the rules deemed to be an unnecessary penalty. I still keep a “malfunction magazine” with one round. Thanks to the “culling” of unnecessary penalties, I can keep it on my right side (I am right handed) next to my rifle and shotgun reloads. Doc Holloman
I keep mine on the left but in a single mag pouch with a snap flap, to keep it from getting mixed up with my loaded mags on open top pouches.
