Pistol rounds must come from a magazine

A while back, I saw a rule that all pistol rounds must come from a magazine. This precluded using a single, loose, round inserted directly into the chamber.

I can't find this rule anymore.

Was it removed, and if so, when?

Yes, If I remember correctly the logic was if you want to damage your extractor by putting a round in the chamber and then dropping the slide, be our guest. I think 3 or 4 years ago, but time flys when you're having fun.

There was certainly very little competitive advantage to loading a loose round into a 1911.  😄

Keep a Barney Fife mag (one round in) if you often need one more round.

It was one of the rules deemed to be an unnecessary penalty.

I still keep a “malfunction magazine” with one round.  Thanks to the “culling” of unnecessary penalties, I can keep it on my right side (I am right handed) next to my rifle and shotgun reloads.

I keep mine on the left but in a single mag pouch with a snap flap, to keep it from getting mixed up with my loaded mags on open top pouches.
