Yes, the Marlin 1894 in either the .44 Mag, or the .45 Colt are both perfectly legal for WBAS matches.  Just make sure your loads for it are under 1400 fps though.

Well, got all the information from both Eddie Rebel and Captain Hook, and they filled me in on all of the details for the match.

 

Just got home from the match, and needless to say, I had a great time, and got to meet some great people as well.  Many thanks to Eddie Rebel for writing and putting on such a great match, and to everyone in the Kanawha Valley Regulators for everything all of you did to make the match a success.

 

I managed to take Second Place in the Men's Modern Category for the match, so I'm very satisfied.  I will definitely be back again for next years match.

You may have a problem with the pistol's weight, according to Colt, the pistol weighs 42.4 oz with a magazine (7-round Wilson Combat) inserted.  They say it weights approximately 40 oz empty.

Well, got this match coming up this weekend, hope it's still going on, as I haven't heard or seen anything to the contrary either in my email, or here on the wire.  Also, guessing how much ammo to bring along, since I don't know what the round count will be for the match.

It should, according to my Winchester loading book, clock at about 800fps, producing a power factor of 160 with a 200gr bullet.

Here's a question that I've not noticed being brought up before.  I normally shoot 200gr SWC's with a 12 Brinnel hardness for WBAS.  I'm currently out of these bullets, but have a full box of 200gr SWC's with an 18 Brinnel hardness rating.  Would these be suitable for WBAS loads and velocities, or would they be too hard on the steel for our purposes?  My loads usually come in at or about a 165 power factor level.

Was able to get in touch with Eddie Rebel, their Match Director, and he was able to send me a copy of the match registration form.  Needless to say, it's filled out, and will dropped off at the Post Office later this afternoon.

I've seen on the SASS site that the State WBAS Championship for West Virginia is coming up in October.  Unfortunately, I cannot find any other information about this match, or anywhere to submit an application to attend this match.  I sent an email to the contact that was listed, but never heard anything back.

 

I'd love to support this match, but really need to know who to contact to get an application for the match (no links or information on the Kanawha Valley Regulators site).  If anybody can help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

Aint it though?  It's simply amazing that some folks just can't understand what's written in black and white right in front of them.  And, since they can't seem to grasp what's spelled out for them, they figure they can just ignore it...then get their knickers all tied up in a knot when they get caught doing so.

I wonder what this phrase means: "ANY EXTERNAL MODIFICATION TO ANY FIREARM NOT SPECIFICALLY REFERENCED IN THIS HANDBOOK IS EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED!" , from page 13 of the SASS Wild Bunch Handbook Version 7.0 - July 2014?

 

Those WBAS folks are just way too strict in their wanting to enforce the stated rules...I'll tell you what...I'm just gonna sulk, and then I'm gonna take my toys and go home, and never, never, ever come back...let's see how they like that

Personally I believe the rifle to be the biggest hurdle for shooters from other disciplines. We put less emphasis on it and the round count is lower. The cost of a rifle and the reloading set up to support it is a lot.

 

So! How about a "Professionals" category?  Men, women, young and old all combined.

 

1911 that meets current WB rules.

12 Gauge pump shotgun. Any pump. Have the shooter load it on the line under the TO's supervision.

I tend to agree that the rifle aspect may be one thing that may be presenting a hurdle.  However, I don't agree that we should do away with the rifle.  The biggest obstacle I've heard is the requirement for .40 caliber or larger rifle.  If this were changed to .357 caliber or larger, with a minimum 150 power factor, this would be a much better solution.  My logic is based on the fact that many shooters already use .357 caliber rifles as their main match rifles in CAS, allowing them in WBAS with a firm minimum power factor would definitely help us sway some of the folks to our side of the fence.

And this has what to do with WBAS, where we use 1911 pistols exclusively?  Take your question to the SASS Wire, and you may get more answers.

I do encourage others to go as all out as they care to with their doughboy look even tho the movie that we base this sport on was set in what about 1907 not 1917? Go for it , power to alla y'all.

Don't these actors know they're in a western movie?  Just look at them, running around acting like they're doughboys or something, what were they thinking?

 

If you call Coon Creek Old West, they'll set you up with a pair, most WBAS shooters wear these.  And don't forget, you will need a belt for jodhpurs.

It tends to lock up the slide when going for elevated shots.  If I push the slide forward after the shot, it cycles like it should.  Only does this on elevated shots (poppers).

While shooting at the NY State WBAS Championship this past weekend, I discovered a problem with my Model 12.  It worked flawlessly all weekend, except when I went up for poppers.  Every time, the action seemed to hang up, resulting in missed targets.  I've been sitting around at home, and using my practice rounds, discovered that the shotgun seems to hang up when pointed upwards, doesn't do this when level.  Am I doing something wrong, or is this a problem or common trait of the Model 12?  For the time being, looks like I'll be using my trusty Model 97 when poppers are called for in the stage (it functions smoothly every time).

I agree completely, this was one heluva great match, and I'm certainly going to be attending again next year (but with kevlar reinforced tires for my gun cart...one tire fell victim to some bounceback which blew out the tire).  Big thanks again to all of the Circle K Regulators for putting on such a great match

After another spectacular magazine blowout at last weeks match, I've decided to retire my military surplus magazines.  That made two matches in a row that I've had magazine failures from the bottom welds giving out.  I received three new Chip McCormick Shooting Star magazines I ordered from MidwayUSA in the mail yesterday (still need to pick up several more).
