I'm planning on it. I'm guessing the places I like to travel to and shoot the most will keep doing what they've been doing, so I'm not worried about finding great matches to shoot.

It seems like some folks really do want bigger closer targets and simpler sequences, and that's fine, but it's those qualities that make CAS boring for me, so I don't shoot it much any more. If sanctioned WBAS matches are moving in that direction, those aren't matches I'll return to.

I have no issue with Misty pandering to her members in an effort to make money -- it's a business after all. However, it does seem kind of dirty how she has treated the volunteers who have done so much work to make WBAS what it is (or was).

I'm not much of a leader, but I'm an OK soldier, and I'll be glad to support those ambassadors and other volunteers who want to keep building and shooting a game like yesterday's Wild Bunch.

    ☝️This!!!☝️

I'm probably quitting since now i'll have to go buy a 38 rifle with a carbon fiber mag, short stroke kit and start loading mouse fart 38's which also will require me to purchase new brass, primers and dies just to stay competitive.

  2. I loaded 5.5 and it felt louder and snappier than my old trail boss load so maybe it's just me? I ordered a new scale too. My current one is a 5 year old Amazon special so it may be out of calibration. 5.5 filled the case right close to the bottom of the bullet

  3. I finally picked up some unique powder and loaded up a few and only fired 3 because they seemed hot compared to my old tb load. I used the data off the can. What's a safe light load for unique in 45acp that still gives me the power factor required? I run a 200gn rnfp.

  4. Since it appears Trailboss will never be returning to the market, what is a good powder to switch to for 45acp/45colt? I have been using TB for both since I started reloading for SASS/WB and have never used anything else so I'm a little anxious about switching powders and don't know what's comparable to TB... Thanks!

Oh, BTW, there are 3 types of 1911 shooters; those who are so new to 1911s they haven't launched a recoil plug yet, those who admit to it, and liars. You will eventually launch one...

Yup, there is a brand new Wilson plug somewhere behind my dresser, headboard or nightstand... I don't know where it went, if I ever rearrange my room, I'll probably find it...

  6. Shooter engages pistol targets in correct order with no misses. End of stage, shooter clears pistol as per TO instructions and ejects a live round. All targets were engaged and shot clean. Obviously one of the 4 mags had 8 rounds, unknown which mag. WTC?

  7. other than Amerc and Maxxtech, what other brands of brass should a 45acp reloader avoid?

i bought a wilson combat barrel for my iver johnson 1911 and it has a very tight chamber. i cant get a crimp any tighter so those two brands of brass are junk now

  8. so what you're both saying is i should come to one of your shoots and drop some on the ground while you're at the line? ;D

really i wish i knew where this crap keeps coming from... i probably pulled 100 or more out of my all of brass...

  9. So I went through all 400 process of 45 I loaded the other day and dropped every one of them into the "tightest" barrel and not one would drop all the way in. Got on YouTube and watched the video on how to set up my taper crimp die, set it up again and tada! There's the problem. I recrimped every one and checked every one and they all drop in now (other than that amerc crap I keep picking up somewhere)

  10. I'm thinking I'm not crimping the bullets enough. Every factory load I have drops in the barrels just fine, only my reloads seem to be the problem. I have a box of someone else's reloads I'll try when I get home from work. If those drop in, then it's definitely me.

Those spare barrels are all second hand except for my 6 inch which is from Sarco and has the tightest chamber of them all.

  11. So my main match wild bunch pistol is a chrome Iver Johnson 1911a1. This thing is slick, smooth and beautiful right out of the box! I bought it brand new but accuracy had been a little off compared to my rock island and Thompson. When I first got it I realized it had a white insert in the front sight (dovetailed) so I immediately replaced it with a different sight before I ever fired it. At the last match I shoot last year I realized the front sight was moving around in the dovetail. So over the winter I fixed the issue with the front sight. I shoot the first match of the year yesterday and I'm still missing way more than I did with my rock island. During our lunch break, I pulled the barrel thinking maybe it's full of lead and discovered not only is the rifling very light but it's also over bored so much if you try to drop a love round through the muzzle it stop on the case mouth and not the bullet! I can push a bullet into the muzzle with my fingers!

I have a few barrels I picked up over the years so swapping it out is not a problem but each one of them won't fully chamber my reloads like the chambes are too tight. I use cowboy#4 bullets (.452 200gn rnfp) from Missouri bullet. Which chamber just fine in both my RIA and IJ but not my Thompson or any of my spare barrels. What's going on here? I want to order a Wilson barrel but don't want to run into a problem with rounds chambering in a $200 barrel...

  12. The saga continues:

Got the new lifter, it's been jeweled and is gorgeous!!! Removed the old flagged 3" lifter and installed the new non flagged 2 3/4" lifter. Solved my old problem but created two new ones.

First the gun is much harder to close with the new lifter in it.

Second now the shells are jamming up against the front part of the ejection port when I cycle it fast.

To remedy problem one, I disassembled both guns, and I compared the 2 3/4 bolt to my 3" bolt. I noticed the channel that the operates the lifter on the 3 inch gun is much more angled than the 2 3/4 bolt. So I got out my trusty Dremel and got to work reshaping the channel.

SUCCESS! gun is much smoother to operate than before and it's actual smoother than the other one!

Next I removed the flag from my old lifter, took some measurements and got out the trust Dremel again and went to work. After about an hour of grinding, filing and sanding, I now have a flagged lifter.

Now the gun is slick as glass and I can hold it with the ejection port facing the ground and it cycles as fast as I can cycle it!!

Monday I'm going to the range and doing a live fire test. I don't foresee any more trouble with the gun now but if I do, I'm selling the damn thing...lol...

  13. I've got a Model 12 in great condition but I've continued to experience issues with it. I think it's me more than the gun...I've tore it down, cleaned everything and didn't see an issue with anything. It looked brand new inside. It runs fine when operating it slow and deliberate but when running it fast during a shoot, more often than not I encounter feeding issues where the live rounds don't make it into the chamber. Very frustrating because it's a well built gun. When it bobbled at the last local WB shoot I borrowed a Win 97 and shot the rest of the match with zero issue! I've got a 97 but haven't put it into service yet for CAS or WB. It just seems to be smoother for me than the Model 12. Anyone else experience the same thing?

No because the Model 12 is so much smoother and faster than the 97. It’s in technique. Why do you think the winners of Winter Range and EOT use Model 12s?

    +1

i just sold the 97 that i bought from the WV showdown winner from a few years back. my bone stock 12 is much smoother than the 97 and even with all the trouble ive had with my 3" model 12, its still a smoother gun.

BTW, my new 2 3/4" lifter came in the mail today. its installed (FYI, the screw that holds it in is LEFT HAND THREAD!!! quite frustrating if you didnt know that :o) seems like that solved the problem but i wont know for sure until i take it to the range tomorrow...

  14. will do, im still waiting for the one i ordered to be shipped

so put my buddy's 2 3/4 lifter in my gun and it seams to run fine, i haven't tested it with live ammo yet, just dummy rounds. why do i need to change the bolt? other than the face they appear to be the same

  15. So I discovered 2 things today...

    1. the lifter/carrier I ordered is for a 3" gun.

    2. The screw that holds it in is left hand thread.. (broke two screw driver bits before I figured it out)

I have another lifter on the way. This one is definitely the right one... I hope...lol...

  16. Only when using that ammo. By chance, you have a magazine that holds 8. You load 8 in and fire that round in the completion of the stage, then the penalty is earned.  In your original post, shooter did not “overload”. Absolutely nothing wrong with what they did to complete the stage, right up until they fired those two extra rounds. Had they stopped at the 14th round, dropped mag and cleared gun, there would not have been a penalty.

I hope that helps clear it up for you.

i was wondering on that myself.

at sundays WB match i had a misfeed and dropped the mag 3 rounds fell out, i put that mag back in, fired it dry and loaded another full mag in to finish but at the end of the string i had one in the chamber and 3 in the mag. dropped mag, cleared it and was assessed no penalty, which is what i couldn't understand. i thought for sure doing that was wrong.

  17. Yeah, I see the difference in the face now. Mine also has a lug that locks into the barrel that the 2 3/4" gun doesn't have. Good news is I may be trading a Mossberg 500 for a 1940's model 12!!!

What I don't understand is why my buddy's 2 3/4 gun loads and chambers 3 inch shells but my 3 inch gun doesn't like 2 3/4 shells...
