  1. Oh cool! My Mauser has its original Iron Sights. I also have a '03 Springfield....but it was unfortunately sporterized....damn! I've always wanted an Enfield SMLE to try one of those famous British MAD MINUTES using your middle finger on the trigger things!!
  2. :P SOOoooo jealous! I'd love to find a Lee-Enfield SMLE for $89 bucks today. My first rifle was a Mauser 1888/08/36 (Turkish) purchased from Big 5 Sporting Goods store back in the '70's for.....$25 dollars. It was stacked in a wooden barrel full of Mauser's. Needed an extractor replaced and cleaned but has been a straight shooter since then. Wondering....would this rifle be allowed? It was re-arsenalled by the Turks, I believe in 1908 and then again in 1936, hence the nomenclature. The original sleeved barrel replaced at some point, but I have no idea when, but otherwise it's all original.
  3. Silly question time. Which/what style boots were worn under military canvas and leather leggings for the Wild Bunch period? From pictures they look like some form of lace up "boondockers". Would something like Boot Barns "Ad Tec Men's Packer 9"Work Boots" work? The hell is higher than the military style for the "walking or camp" boots of the era but the shape looks right. Well except for that skirt thing below the first eyelet. http://www.bootbarn.com/dw/image/v2/BCCF_PRD/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-master-product-catalog-shp/default/dwb8e8b2fc/images/440/2000122440_280_P1.JPG?sw=290&sh=290&sm=fit The above packers (less the skirt/kilt thing) looks very very similar to laced military boots of the period....at least to me. I seem to recall reading in the rules that modern military combat boots were not cool for SASS, but isn't that or something similar what was worn by the military back in the day? Not questioning the rules, just looking for information and clarification. THANKS Doc
  4. Wondering what is appropriate in early turn of the twentieth century military kit? Particularly regarding WWI military web gear, holsters and magazine pouches. Is there a hard and fast cut off year or if the kit stays in the Spirit of that type of gear type/look? For instance, 1911 pistol ammo pouches. There are subtle visual differences between manufactured types produced during WW1 up to WW2 pouches. What is appropriate? How much leeway do you have? The rules mention to 1916. How hard is that date, if I find kit items from say 1917-1918 but are similar to earlier types is that a problem. Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm just starting out and want to avoid any costuming faux pas. I can't wait to break out my 1911-C (civilian production) original Colt that I inherited from my FIL. 8) So I'm trying to put together a kit around that particular military period. Thanks
