Ol Salty Sailor Posted Sunday at 04:22 PM Posted Sunday at 04:22 PM I am considering competing in the Teddy Roosevelt category in the NW regional/WB Territorial match next month. Does anyone reload for 30-30 Win? Quote
Garrison Joe Posted Sunday at 05:16 PM Posted Sunday at 05:16 PM (edited) Anyone who is shooting 30-30 in TR events is reloading it. I'm sure several do. Are you looking for a good cast bullet load for it? What powder(s) and bullet(s) do you have around? I have seen about 8 or 9 grains of Unique and a flat pointed bullet about 170 grains shoots well at the short ranges that TR is shot. GJ Edited Sunday at 05:22 PM by Garrison Joe 1 Quote
Ol Salty Sailor Posted Sunday at 07:30 PM Author Posted Sunday at 07:30 PM (edited) There is a local (Layton Utah) one man shop called Precision Cast Bullets that makes Hi-Tek coated cast lead bullets, I picked up a small quantity of bullets to test from him. The .45 and .38 I've reloaded for CAS with bullets I bought from him have worked fine. The ones I'm going to try are .308, 0.989 length and 175 gr I use Tite Group to load all of my CAS. I also have Varget as an option. Edited Sunday at 07:31 PM by Ol Salty Sailor 1 Quote
Garrison Joe Posted Monday at 12:26 AM Posted Monday at 12:26 AM TiteGroup will work for what you are trying to do......might start with 9 grains. No "filler" material is recommended anymore by Lyman or other handbook publishers, due to ringing of chambers that is loosely suspected to be made worse with dacron or other filler. Varget would work if you were shooting 100, 200 yards or more; it would be more powerful than you need for TR matches. good luck, GJ Quote
