CMP and Tisas 1911s

Recommended Posts

Reports on Tisas are pretty good, usually.

I'd rather see them try to get Colt back on track making them, though, rather then sending 3/4 of the price back to Turkeye folks.  Overseas production does not help America.  We need to be able to make arms in the US.   "Important messages from 1917 and 1939".

good luck, GJ

I bought a Tisas government model for $350 after reading all the good reviews. So far I've been really pleased with it. Accuracy has been on par with the Remington Rand I foolishly let get away from me. Fit and finish inside and out are really good.

Reliability has been great with all reloads with my cast bullets. It even cycles my 200 grain Lyman semi wad cutters if they are seated a thumb nails width higher the the cartridge  case.

The pistol looks good too! It has a gray green tint that looks like it's been parkerized but I understand it's been crecoated.

Worth taking a look at.

Your mileage may very.

Tater

PS I still favor my Series 70!

I used a Tisas for years.  Had to replace the inside parts cause my gunsmith could not polish the parts, the metal just flaked off.

I hear the new ones don't have this problem with the metal.

It performed very well and it is my backup now - treated myself to a Colt a few years ago.

The Tisas is a strong performer.

Those would be MIM metal parts.  Sintered metal powder.   If sintering (heating to almost the melting point) is not done well, the metal does not consolidate into a solid part, but retains porosity and weakness.

I only use bar-stock milled fire control parts in any 1911, to avoid such occurrences.    Wilson and many other of the good 1911 parts houses carry such parts.  I've never had any of those fail, especially the Wilson "bulletproof" parts.  A few bar stock extractors have lost their spring tension, however, but that is kind of common with 50,000 rounds through a gun.

And I too strongly favor a real Series 70 Colt.

good luck, GJ
