  1. Happy Jack, I disagree with you on your comment.  In CAS you can make up a missed shotgun target, but you are on the clock, and your score is the time it takes you to get through a stage.  In 3 gun, you shoot the shotgun targets until they go down, also you can shoot one shot on the paper targets, and you are good if in the "A" zone, or 2 shots to make sure your target is neutralized......all on the clock.
  2. I would like to know what are the Wild Bunch shooters opinions about using a recoil spring buffer?  You know that 1/8 inch thick piece that fits on the recoil spring guide.  I have always used them, and replace after they get beat up.  I had a discussion with my gunsmith about them and he said they can cause some problems if they are oversized they can crack the dust cover.  I removed mine the other day, shot the gun and didn't notice any change, and I didn't replace it.  Just some thoughts.
  3. I just switched over to all Hi-Tec coated bullets.  Less smoke, very little, if any leading, supposed to give a few more FPS, and you don't have a big mess with all that waxey lube on your loading dies.  I now use them in my Wild Bunch Springfield 1911, Ruger Vaqueros 44 mag, Marlin 1894 44 mag. and my Pedersoli 45/70.  Plenty of makers out there I happen to use ACME bullets.
  4. I feel bad about your wrist ailments.......  If Wild Bunch starts adding any new categories, it will be heading down the road like CAS has.  I have been shooting both CAS and Wild Bunch for some time.  When I started with CAS, I think there was 7 or 9 categories.....now I think there is about 42, which is ridiculous.  I like Wild Bunch categories, traditional and modern, some times an open class is available..........and that is it.
  5. If the primer holes have been drilled out, do not use them for regular loads.  I have some 44 mag. brass that I use with rubber bullets, the manufacturer recommended to drill out the primer pockets, and not to use them again for regular 44 loading.  If you don't drill out the primer holes, since there is no recoil, the regular sized primer holes, when fired the primer will back out and jam up the gun.  Don't known what would happen to a 1911, fired with rubber bullets.
  6. I didn't think they were.  I have another 97 that was willed to me by another cowboy shooter.  It is in the shop now to have it worked on and made to hold 6. Gunsmith is cutting the follower, flare it and cut the spring, then open the forcing cone etc.
  7. I have a Norinco 97, I bought the 6 round conversion kit and it works good.  I also have a 97 E model made in 1911, I didn't want to spend the money for a second 6 round kit, so I used a magazine spring from a Remington 870.  The E model will just hold 6 rounds, by about 1/8 inch and it seems to work ok too with my reloaded shotshells.  I don't know if factory shotshell ammo is shorter or longer than reloaded ammo.  Can anyone answer that?
  8. Has anyone used the 45 cal. 200gr. lead round nose flat point semi-wad cutter bullets?  If so, what were your experience?  I guess the bullet description left a lot to be desired.  A friend has a 1911 45 that will not digest my 200 gr. lswc.  The only thing that will work at this time is loading copper plated 230 gr. bullets, and the gun works fine.  I did some searching on the net and found some 45 cal  .452  200 gr. lead bullets with a flat point and of the shape of a round nose bullet without the crimp groove.  The bullet shape looks like a 200gr.  lswc but the bullet is not the cone shape like most swc is is rounded like the 230 round nose.  I guess you could use the 200gr. lead round nose with a bullet crimp, but where do you seat the bullet?
  9. Update  I borrowed a chrongraph, and shot some loads past it.  I used 4.8gr. of 231...and 4.9gr of 231, all behind a 200 gr.LSWC bullet.  The results were all over the place, had about 47 FPS variance.    Some would have made the 150 power factor, and other...no way.  I traced the variance to the fact the some of the bullets had been loaded, about 3 times, and never been shot.  They were taken apart, reloaded, etc.  I think, every time I reloaded them, the crimp squished the bullet to a smaller diameter, causing inconsistent bullet pull.  I reloaded new bullets, behind 5.0gr. of 231, and all is well.  I took 5th place, in the Michigan Range war mini 4 stage match.

  10. Found a good load for Wild Bunch, using WST, ran out, and could not find it.  Now I am using Winchester 231, don't have a chronograph, will 4.8 grs. of 231 behind a 200 gr. LSWC, shot from a full sized 1911, make power factor?  Thanks
