  1. At 6’4 I have large hands with long fingers. To the op, you might want to also ask about trigger length in your survey as they also play a part in how well or poorly you can operate your 1911.

So let's add in long or short trigger . Also how about large or small hands. I'm think this could be good information for new shooters.

  2. Loco Poco Lobo and I would like to congratulate Renegade Roper and her crew for putting a very good NY State Match. The match had 60 + shooters. The stages where fast and challenging. Looking forward to next year's match!!!!!

  3. I would like to thank Renege Roper and her committee for on putting on a very good NY state WB match. The stages were well written,. They very competitive but also written in a way that whatever the skill level of the shooter they were able to shoot the stage!!!!

Looking forward to next year (hopefully without the Chinese virus) so that King Cuomo will not limit the match to 50 shooters.

  5. Nawlins Kid & Loco Poco Lobo will hold a Wild Bunch Range Officer class in Pelham New Hampshire at the Great Nor-easter Regional match on Wednesday July 25. The class will start at 12:00 PM

Before the class, please read the SASS WB Handbook and RO Manual (direct links are below):

    http://www.sassnet.com/wildbunch/handbooks/SASS%20WBAS%20Handbook%20Vers%2011_4.pdf

    http://www.sassnet.com/wildbunch/handbooks/WB%20RO_Manual%2011_5_1%20%20012718.pdf

Cost is $30 for first time people to qualify for WB RO.  Qualification renewals are $0, but new RO pins are $5.

What should you bring to class?

    • Note taking materials (paper and pens/pencils)

NO firearms or ammunition to the class

The training course consists of a presentation, multiple-choice test, and a practical test.  All the test answers are in the WBAS Handbook, so we emphasize that you read and understand the Handbook before the class.  The training can take up to 6 hours (depending on students and questions), but we will take breaks as needed.

To sign up for the class or any questions about the class please contact us at wb1911@rochester.rr.com

  6. I just purchased this from E- Bay and it works great for loading the 1911 mags.. LPL likes it a lot especially now that we are loading 7 in the mag!!!

RangeTray “Thumbless” Magazine Speed Loader for the 1911 .45 Single  Stack Mags

It’s the fifth one down on the page  at $ 12.45

Go to their website and watch the video on how to use it and they also have loaders for different pistols

I'm not affiliated  or get any compensation from Range Tray.

  7. One thought is getting more clubs to agree to monthly matches and having it as a real WB match. It's difficult to get folks to fork over money for equipment etc. and only have a 5th  Saturday match or twice yearly etc. It could be a simple thing to drag in a set of WB distance rifle targets and use the cowboy rifle targets as WB pistol and use the same shotgun targets. Let the Cowboys shoot the stage and then let the WB loose. With five or more let them posse together and have a match! There are shooters who will WB that are not shooting cowboy now. Getting across to the clubs that this will draw shooters they would not ordinarily get means additional free income just for setting up a few more targets that are already laying around but cowboy shooters aren't using. As far as power factors, 38 rifles and everything else that is used as an excuse is just that. At our home club we have an open class allowing ANY 1911 any pump shotgun and any sass legal main match rifle.........very very rarely used. Back 40,if your having monthly matches give them an open class shoot the 38 rifles, tell all to not worry about power factors at your local monthly shoot. A preacher told me you got to get them to the church before you can baptize them. I think he had a point.  Dusty Boddams

We shoot the fourth Sunday of the month and allow shooters to shoot WB on the cowboy stages. It has stir interest in WB and also having folks join SASS. There is nothing wrong having a separate class for 38 cal rifles, we call it Rough Rider. That is a term we use when we teach WB RO and now there are a few clubs using it to try entice folks to come try it. As DB stated you got to get them to come first and then convert them into WB shooters.

This year at the The Nor-easter Regional we are putting on a WB mini match and it will have a Rough Rider class. It is a open class to shoot either Traditional or Modern with a legal 1911 and SG and a legal SASS 38 cal rifle. There will be only one class for men shooters and women shooters.

  8. WB is now featured in a national magazine. This past April at the New York WB State match a writer from the magazine came to match to write a article on WB. He came both days taking pictures and interviewing the shooters. When I had my conversation with him he told it would be a very positive article and it was. Two thumbs up for American Cowboy Magazine for featuring one of the best shooting sports around.

  9.

Light trigger spring pressure or a negative sear angle or a too-short sear to hammer engagement can all lead to a gun going full auto too.  It takes a real trigger wizard to get a reliable and safe 2.5 # pull on a 1911.  3 # - not that hard to do right.

    Good luck, GJ

A few years ago my pistol smith had a customer come in with a 1911. All he told him was it was not firing properly. So Dennis went to the back of his shop where he has a 50 gal drum of sand. He pointed the 1911 into the drum and then it full auto. He ended up with a couple of rounds that went thru his rear door. When Dennis asked him what he did to his pistol he fess up saying that he was trying to lesson the trigger pull.
